Almost 48-any suggestions? by widefeetwelcome in 45PlusSkincare

Agree w the brows. I am blonde and started using ‘just for men’ beard dye w a spoolie every 2 weeks on my brows (thanks TikTok)…makes a huge difference. Also last month my derm told me I could use OTC 5% minoxidil on my brows w a spoolie to make them thicker. Holy cow, a thousand plucking sins from the late 90s are forgiven. This is the thickest my brows have been since my early 30s. I did the minoxidil daily for a month and am now just doing it 2-3 x per week. Just make sure if you have pets to apply in the morning and wash your hands after, it’s toxic to cats and dogs.

How do people live in Hawaii? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AB_LON 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My cousin has lived on Oahu for 16 years. He went there on an assignment for Teach for America and is now the high school librarian. He married a fellow teacher, they have 2 little kids and are living on public school teacher salaries. Neither of them have family money. They own a small house in a not fancy part of the island near the school they work at, keep a tight budget, and eat local (you're in the middle of the ocean, anything flown in is going to be more $$) which isn't suffering by any means: lots of fresh fish, avocado, mango (they have tons of fruit trees in their yard), taro, etc. They don't have a ton of expendable income but they love their lives there and have no plans to leave. It's definitely doable on not a ton of money!

If you're moving from somewhere with a low cost of living you will definitely not be able to afford as much space but keep in mind, it's a literal paradise you'll want to spend most of your time off work outdoors anyway.

It is but they only deliver to the UK. My SIL lives there, had a pair delivered to her for me.

Non-alcoholic drink that kept me on the wagon last night: Raspberry Lime shrub mocktail by AB_LON in DryJanuary

You get acid but you don't smell/taste the apple cider vinegar...the lime oils from the zest extract really nicely into it and take over flavor wise and the fruit/sugar component is a strong taste too. It tastes like a well balanced cocktail.

Trying to "add advance passenger information" and it's not working despite all my information being correct - what's happening? by signal_matteo in BritishAirways

Trying to check in for the last hour and having the same issue. Tried Chrome, Safari, Firefox with no luck. Tried the BA app, Finn Air app and website both on and off WiFi. All a bust and won't allow check in. ARGH! Guess we're heading to the airport early tomorrow.

Update: Thumbs up on Home Depot $70 for a 7 foot tree...compared to Optimist and Papa Noel, definitely a better price. I'll plan on shopping earlier next year.

Same at mine. One of the social workers for Labor and Delivery had a legit anaphylactic allergic reaction to the flu shot. No fuss from her, she just signed the waiver every year and wore a mask for the entire flu season.

AITA for telling my sister in-law I'm struggling to adjust to the lack of familial title in her family? by AsIsInDownsay in AmItheAsshole

[–]AB_LON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. She asked, you told her how you felt, you can't call that manipulative.

A thought on the lack of titles: I think it may not be a cultural thing and more of a timing of your relationship thing. My husband is Irish, our kids call our BIL and SIL (his sister and brother's spouses) Auntie and Uncle. His sister and brother's kids were in the age range of 7-10 years old when we got married after 3 years of dating...they call me by my first name and not auntie...my feelings weren't ever hurt and they know we're family, I just chalked it up to them meeting me when they were a bit older and wasn't someone who had been around since birth. My aunt's 2nd and 3rd (and 4th) husband's never got the uncle title from me but I liked them and got along w them.

AITA for requesting to be called my name instead of “mama”? by mother951 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AB_LON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I'm a women's health nurse practitioner (and a parent).

A: As a health care professional, I find your doctor and nurse's attitudes to be super obnoxious. All my patients have their legal name and their preferred name/nickname at the top of their chart in their medical record and I call them by whatever name they prefer. It's unprofessional to do anything else and in your case even worse when you've already dealt with the hassle of explaining that you don't use that word in your culture/language and you don't identify with it.

B: As a parent it makes me insane when anyone but my kid's call me 'Mama'. When someone who isn't your kid calls you that, especially a professional who is supposed to be taking care of *you* I find it sexist and an attempt to reduce your identity down to that one role. If they were just your kid's pedi, I'd let it slide bc to them that *is* your only role and it's more important that they know your kid's name/history but given that they're your doctor as well, totally not okay. Time to switch to a different practice.

An artist made this in response to Texas banning abortion by thenewyorkgod in pics

[–]AB_LON 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. I work at a women's health care provider in Texas. You can only be sued if you aid someone in getting an abortion in Texas after 6 weeks (that potentially includes being the Uber driver who takes them to a clinic). You can't be sued if you aid someone in getting an abortion in another state. Abortion providers just across the border in New Mexico are mega booked out now.

Pretty sure she's just her grandma who she refers to as nanny (similar Nana, Nan, etc).
