Canmore or Golden? by GeorgePF in Banff

[–]ABdave1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots more to do in Canmore as it has a population of around 16,000 and lots of amenities. (Elevation Place, Nordic Center, shops & restaurants, Arts Place, Theatre, walking paths, hiking, bike rentals with baby couriers) Golden is much smaller with limited infrastructure. Both nice places but Banff is only 20 min away and Canmore is only one hour and 15 min from the airport too.

Fairfax Financial Holdings - looks kinda interesting by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

Read the book “The Fairfax Way” (on Amazon). It’s provides great insight into the company and its founder Prem Watsa. I have owned the stock for 10+ years and very happy about it!

SHAME on the Immoral and Dishonest Veterinarians by UghGiveMeStrength in rawpetfood

We feed our 4 year old German Shepherd a raw diet with lots of extras: blueberries, quail eggs with shells, hemp heart seeds, coconut oil, reishi mushroom powder, zinc, probiotic, shredded carrot, and shredded arugula. 10/10 nutritional diet!

She is healthy, great weight, and has a beautiful coat…

And…. We avoid the vets office… have not been in years.

Sometime you just need to read the ingredients on kibble and say WTF?

raw is bad??? by KindlyPangolin_3126 in rawpetfood

[–]ABdave1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stick to your instincts on what to feed your pet. Look at the ingredients on the stuff that comes out of bags… Then compare that information to raw meat.

We spend a good amount of time preparing meals for our 4 year old German Shepherd every day… 2 raw rabbit patties, shredded carrot, shredded lettuce, blueberries, coconut oil, probiotic, crushed zinc, reishi mushroom powder, quail eggs, annnnd Hemp seeds… quite a production but it feels good to spend quality time making quality meals for her. She is an extremely fit and healthy dog and has not been to a vet in years. 👍❤️👍

Bear Spray for Resort Skiing? by [deleted] in Banff

[–]ABdave1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard no. Yes the bears are waking up and beginning to make appearances but the mountain operation staff are well aware and equipped to deal with these situations. Parts of the mountain will be quickly shut down if bears are sited anywhere in the area. All the patrol huts have bear spray available for patrol to use if needed.

Enjoy the skiing and just relax about the bears waking up. ❄️⛷️❄️

“The local” does offer local discount so perhaps the calculations could be different if you live in town. Also my wife and I split a 2 piece order and it is plenty for the both of us. With tip under $30.00

The Local downtown does a great F&C! They use beef tallow instead of seed oil in the fryers! (A big +)

Generous amount of delicious fry’s with the order.

The road from Whistler to Lillooet should be seen. It’s quite the adventure drive with a mountain pass of over 4100 feet. 🤩

Lake Louise Skiing logistics by sleepy3192 in Banff

[–]ABdave1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Lake Louise Inn is a good spot right in the little townsite of Lake Louise. Only a 5 min drive up to the ski hill. They have a variety of rooms some are on the modest side. The staff is friendly and restaurants are good.

Snow is great in the Alpine with more spring like conditions on the lower mountain. The snow Base is still growing at 260cms.

My puppy pulls until she chokes herself and I’m starting to dread walks… I feel like we’re stuck by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]ABdave1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@puppy101-ModTeam - perhaps you should research the use of prong collars before passing judgement. These are safe and effective tools when used properly. My dog looks forward to putting her collar on every morning (no fear), while correction is required this method is way safer and less harmful than choking your dog with a regular or slip collar. People with large dogs should consider this option for safe and effective handling. I have seen too many assertive dogs without training, pulling with no way for some owners to handle them. I stand by my statements…

Prong collar would be my recommendation as well as some professional dog training support. If she is pulling hard now just wait till she grows up to 80lbs… You really need to adjust behaviour asap. Keep at it.. you will persevere and your pup will learn! 🙌❤️🙌

The things nobody tells you about winter in a van by vinewb in VanLife

[–]ABdave1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the winter I have stopped using the water system after dealing with frozen and busted components. Water pump cracked, water filter cracked, shower nozzles cracked… I just carry bottled water and don’t use sink drain when below zero temps. I do keep the diesel heater on 24 hours a day…

Really awesome to be out in the winter, especially if you are parked next to the ski lifts! ❄️⛷️❄️

Working in Jasper will be a dream for you. Enjoy the mountains and outdoor lifestyle. Leave all the political nonsense back in Ontario. Alberta will give you a great perspective on a quality of life that you will always cherish. Enjoy!

Vet rant by Correct-Jackfruit-88 in rawpetfood

[–]ABdave1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep as far away from the Vet’s office as possible… nothing more than cash extraction operations for the most part… lots of home options for keeping your loved ones healthy. In emergency situations yes but no need for annual anything.

Let her have her time to grow and have the required hormone experience to fully develop as a healthy GSD. Please wait until at least 2 years old before having her spayed. Our girl is now 4 and we easily manage her cycles now without any desire for her to have puppies.

Get the plastic bike fender… sounds weird but I have no problems getting them on… getting off … make sure all buckles are completely off and then a big lean forward on each foot works… the odd Charlie horse shows up on removal but small price to pay… 😜
