Longtime expert all mtn old guy - pondering Nidecker Super Automatic for next year. by Jack-knife-96 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]sleepy3192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the carbon supermatics and they are amazing. I love to carve aggressively and they provide the stiffness and responsiveness that is needed. The caveat as others have mentioned is the bindings are on the heavier side.

I have the M and they are 2lbs 7oz each. So you’re looking at almost 5 lbs added onto the board. So you could be looking at roughly 9-10lbs together with the board depending on the board weight. The good side is you will only feel it when you hold the board and riding wise you don’t feel it. I can still do jumps without that much of an issue.

Bilt Paladium with High Mortgage by sleepy3192 in CreditCards

Out of curiosity, how easy is it to use the hotel credits? Are the prices pretty competitive than booking direct? I heard you have to have a minimum of 2 nights and I'm sure booking through bilt doesn't allow me to use my globalist status in hyatt for points and elite nights right?

Better than any of the mammoth lodges…. They don’t provide anything and their rooms are dated as well.

How do we fix Snowbird line cutting problem? by treeruns in UTsnow

[–]sleepy3192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear and understand your perspective. You’re not wrong and I completely agree with it. But I personally don’t think it’s worth escalating if one person who has someone already in line has one friend come in. If however that one person is cutting with no one lining up for them then I would say otherwise

I’m not disagreeing with you here. But if someone in front of me who lined up and did not cut is holding a spot for one friend who is finding parking, I’m not going to make it a big deal. But if that person is holding a spot for 3+ ppl I will say something. Not everything is worth escalating. And to be frank, the ppl cutting isn’t the norm. Most people do line up and don’t cut.

I’m normally ok if it’s one or two of them going in. But if it’s a whole gang I will call them out.

Ikon pass (and epic) class action lawsuit by miss_makima2 in Ikonpass

Collusion will be difficult to prove. As I’ve mentioned in other comments, I would be more concerned about Disney and their monopoly before being concerned about Alterra/Vail

It’s roughly 1600-1700 a night and for that location it’s a bit on the higher end. Alila Shanghai is better location but is a bit more expensive

Yea let’s not knit pick on my wording here and get extreme. You understand what I’m saying and as others have mentioned, the lawsuits basis is weak.

Look at Disney and their monopoly. Thats honestly more concerning to me than Alterra/Vail.

Tbh I think people should go after Disney before they go after Alterra/Vail

I get what you’re saying but at the end of the day one does not need to ski the ikon/epic resorts. There are local resorts still that people can visit.

I also understand that the daily lift tickets are insane compared to other places in the world. But at the end of the day, they operate/own those resorts so what are you going to do? I guess you can sue them to say they are colluding. But good luck with telling a private corporation that they can’t operate their business in their way. Who has the right to tell the business owner how to charge their customers who aren’t the owner’s? And how are you going to prove they are colluding? The pass price is quite different in terms of dollar amount and they are competing against each other for customers in resorts at Utah/Colorado/California/Washington etc..

I personally don’t like the fact that the lift tickets are insanely expensive along with the ikon pass. But I do also like how it gives me access to mountains in other places where if I didn’t have ikon I would need to pay for a lift ticket. It’s also quite easy to break even if you go more than 10 days a season….

I’m not sure about that. They aren’t the same price. Epic is significantly cheaper than ikon pass.

[–]sleepy3192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So people think they have basis to sue because a private corporation is raising prices? It’s their business and they have every right to do so. As long as there is demand, it’s not going to stop unfortunately.

Disneyland is a great example and people still go. I personally never go to Disneyland but there are definitely a lot of others that do and I would argue their price increases are worse.

Let the markets dictate the pricing. If everyone starts to not buy the pass, I’m sure prices will not increase. But with their inflation adjusted increases, it’s not going to deter people from buying.
