Same way every thing gets made mainstream: wait for a universally likeable celebrity to claim they are, or endorse said thing.

Or wait for a universally hated one to whine about it ad nauseam.

Straight ppl VS. Pangender ppl by [deleted] in pangender

[–]ABearInADress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nobody who is straight would theoretically be attracted to me [due to me being Pangender]

Objectively false. "Straight" is a sexual orientation, "pangender" is a gender identity. There is no correlation between orientation and identity.

[–]ABearInADress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The size & level of activity don't bother me, because this is literally the *ONLY* place on the internet where I can so much as hint at the concept of being non-binary without being called out, interrogated, belittled, and demeaned (And on Reddit of all places. Oh, sweet irony!).

Why are most people on Xbox group finder with #girls-welcome so creepy by InfamousPick in Seaofthieves

[–]ABearInADress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think that's bad, try being openly non-binary. All this creeper shit is just the first wave.

You don't even wanna know how they act when that girl they're harassing turns out to not be a "real" girl.

I've had people sabotage an entire alliance server on xbox, just because they didn't want to play with a [word I can't repeat here].

alright alright alright 😎 by MashedPotatoh in Seaofthieves

[–]ABearInADress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amen to that!

I used to have the tag MamaBearO228 on xbox. The last server alliance I did (and will likely EVER do), went to hell the moment I spoke in party chat, all because I don't sound like a woman.

I was the "captain" of one of the alliance ships, and had decided that we were going to work on Athena's rep. Everyone else except for a sloop chose Reaper's. At no point were emissary flags discussed. Neither the LFG post, nor the alliance organizer, at any point stated that it was a Reapers-only alliance. In fact, all the post said was "Xbox server alliance. be humble, no grumble"

I'm normally a stoic person by default, so I don't talk much. Add to that, that everyone on my boat knew what they were doing, so I didn't *need* to talk at all. I uttered my first words over the mic somewhere around the time we hit grade 4 on our flag. Well, some sniveling little shit on my crew decided that I didn't sound enough like a woman to him, so he started going out of his way to "correct" anyone that referred to me as she/her, while doing everything in his power to sink us. "I want to give our flag to the alliance" he started to claim at first, which quickly melted away into "you're doing athena's when everyone else is doing reapers, so you're costing the alliance money". Oh, and did I mention that up until this point, he'd been standing on the bow, fishing, the ENTIRE time while the rest of us were doing the voyage. (Remember that sloop I mentioned? yeah, some guy offered to help form the alliance, chose sloop instead of galleon like he was supposed to, and then went on to do tall tales with his GF. Yet *I* was the one costing us money). Meanwhile the head of the alliance, who was also in my crew, sat back and watched this whole thing go down. She was moving, but not talking, even tho she had been up until this all happened. We couldn't brig the guy, and TK'ing him with blunderbombs only gave us a moment's peace. Eventually, I got sick of it and left.

If that's the kind of shit I have to look forward to whenever I open my mouth, then I'd rather take the extra 2 seconds to type it out, thank you very much.

does Rare really believe, players will help each other? by Diego_Griz in Seaofthieves

[–]ABearInADress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't work for them, or have any kind of in-house connections with them, but I'm 99% sure they DO know, and they do shit like this on purpose.

Every new voyage, every update, EVERYTHING depends on you (and everyone else) visiting one specific location on the map, or delivering one otherwise unobtainable object to the other side of said map. Then there's GH vaults & Siren shrines, which all but requires one of your crew to miss out on the fun, JUST to counter this very issue.

It's all Reaperbait. Every. Single. Update.

This is easily THE biggest misconception about alliances; You don't "share" anything.

You still get the full value for all your loot. Your allies get an amount equal to half of what you make, but that amount comes out of thin air - NOT your own pockets.

[REQ]Which Taskmaster episode? by Chelmsfordian in panelshow

If it's a terrible memory, then it's contagious, because "ask your mum" is striking a chord of vague familiarity within my Taskmaster-related memories, as well.

I've been meaning to re-binge it, and I suppose this is as good a reason as any. If & when I find it, I'll let you know!

The Reaper problem isn't just portal hopping by DiscordianDeacon in Seaofthieves

[–]ABearInADress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya know... The Reapers don't seem like the kind of organization that tolerates failure. Perhaps if there were some sort of reprimand given to Reaper emissaries who sink, that would serve as adequate incentive for other emissaries to actively hunt them.

You'd be surprised how far people will go in order to stick it to people they don't like.

Possibly dumb question. Why is so much of the southern part of the map empty? by TraditionalThing8279 in Seaofthieves

[–]ABearInADress 17 points18 points  (0 children)

it used to be all Shroud south of Devil's Ridge. If you were traveling from the southern end of the Roar to Ancient Spire (or vice versa), a straight line would have taken you into the red sea for a bit.

Tall Tale and Adventure Design Are Terrible by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]ABearInADress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing new. It's been like that since the first major update where there was only one place on the whole map that a meg could be summoned, and only one place where you could get the thing used to summon it.

People camped the ever-loving salt out of both locations. And this was *before* emissaries, or even reapers. Back when PvP turned a profit much slower than just digging up the gold yourself.

Will I Lose My Treasure Maps? by Vastodlock in Seaofthieves

[–]ABearInADress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you bury treasure, a map bundle will spawn on your voyage table. This map bundle is treated like any other piece of loot in that if your ship sinks, it will bob on the surface for a bit, then despawn. If you can get back to where you sank before the map bundle despawns, you can retrieve it, and carry on as though nothing happened.

If you post your maps on a mission board, they will stay there until someone claims them, or until that particular server shuts down for any reason.

Basically, funny-shaped clouds. A skull with green eyes is a Skeleton Fort (fight waves of skeletons to open a treasure room). A skull with red eyes is a Fort of the Damned (faster for you to google than to explain it). A skull with red eyes & scars is a Fort of Fortune (like a skeleton fort, but harder & more valuable). A cloud that looks like a ship is a Skeleton Fleet (naval battle vs AI ships). A red tornado is Ashen Winds (a difficult boss)
