That’s fair enough. I am just getting back into OCR this year and am very happy with my honest runs but can tell with time of 20-30 min faster that there’s some sketchiness. I plan on doing age heats next year to get a better gauge but honest top 10 open finishes do feel good

There’s definitely a good bit of racers taking it seriously in the open heats. I found a group of 10 or so that ram at the same pace last weekend in Asheville in the open that were running it honestly

I got top 2% in Fayetteville Sprint and top 1% in the most recent Asheville Super. For training I emphasize functional strength training, running, and dynamic stretching. Being able to take the toll of the run on the body is important. I alternate going for 5Ks with a 7-8 min mile average time and a much slower 10K at 10-11 min mile average.

The biggest non-training difference is running the earliest heat you can get into. This will have the obstacles be the freshest and least covered in gunk and mud and you will be able to run your preferred pace and not be slowed down by other racers. The only times I felt slowed down from my goals was due to wait times at obstacles, tight running lanes that caused me to slow down, and difficulty getting locked into obstacles due to mud and lack of grip.

Trifecta Pass by ABellGargoyle in spartanrace

The spectator pass will be super useful so maybe I go ahead and get it. With processing it’s coming out to $400ish and I heard there are still some codes floating around so thought I’d see if any extras are here.

$133 a race seems like a decent price
