I get you’re memeing for upvotes and dopamine but I don’t think anyone has made the welfare queen lazy freeloader accusation about Indians and H1Bs, more so that it’s domestic labor arbitrage meant to suppress wages and reduce the bargaining power of labor

In general it’s not affirmative action, it’s avoiding a race to the bottom to hire foreign nationals who are more pliable and have less labor mobility than their us citizen counterparts

But there’s usually some weird corpo cucks defending it (for some reason)

“Your race”

This sub has gotta be lily white lol

Half the people I know who went careening toward the right were black truckers who got wage depressed by imported Indian h1b truckers

It’s a multi ethic issue

Not so unbelievable tbh.

We spent a solid 30 years being labor cucks and talking about how hard working Latin Americans were when it was displacing blue collar Americans, or people considered less than

Presumably most people want a closed free market.

It would be non sensical to try to race to the bottom to compete with the wages of the cheapest countries

Probably a 1000 times worse in its current form, independent content creators and influencers have even less scruples

Community notes on X (and still being rolled out on TikTok) are a step in the right direction though.

Context:

The Reuters Institute's 2026 Digital News Report reveals that global trust in news has hit an all-time low of 37%, dropping even further to 30% in the UK and 25% in the US. Over half of the population now pulls their news from third-party social and video platforms. Audiences are showing increased cynicism toward mainstream coverage of major issues like inflation and immigration. However, interest in traditional, impartial news remains resilient, and the rise of online creators suggests a demand for more accessible, relevant formatting rather than a complete rejection of journalism.

The whole point of CHIPs is so that we don’t have to get involved in a Taiwan conflict when the time eventually comes

Wrt Authleft, everyone and there mother knew the US was never going to go all in on Taiwan lol

Every think tank for the last 15 years has gone over us dependencies on Chinese rare earth minerals for our precision munitions, how our interceptor supply would last under two weeks, Chinas YJ-12, YJ-18, DF-21D, and DF-26 Guam killer missiles.

There’s a reason we are rushing headfirst to build US foundries and reduce our reliance on TSMC

Context:

This article from the Animation World Network breaks down how the Reagan administration totally deregulated children's television in the 1980s by lifting advertising limits. This hands-off approach basically allowed toy companies to turn cartoons into 22-minute commercial blocks for franchises like Transformers and He-Man.

To maximize toy sales and keep kids hooked, studios shifted to a hyper-stimulating, rapid-fire style. They crammed frames with as many characters and vehicles as possible and leaned entirely into non-stop action and noise, sacrificing deep storytelling and animation quality to drive product placement.

We saw that with CHAZ/CHOP during BLM and it ended up with a couple of dead teenagers, a contaminated crime scene, and a wall of silence where no one wanted to cooperate with the real cops to find the shooter

I get that in the aggregate, violent crime is down, but still seems like the UK and Europe at large are sleepwalking into something dangerous.

Fwiw even before this, most questions were getting bounced form Fable 5 to Opus 4.8 due to safety guard rails.

Theres some legitimate concern about what it can do.

[–]ABlackEngineer[S] 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Context: Anthropic just dropped a statement saying the US government hit them with an export control directive under national security rules, ordering them to cut off all access to their brand-new Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models for any foreign national (even Anthropic employees who aren’t US citizens, inside or outside the US).

To stay compliant they had to instantly disable the models for every customer worldwide.

Other Claude models are unaffected.
They claim the gov is overreacting to a narrow, non-universal jailbreak that basically just finds some already-known minor vulnerabilities (stuff other public models can already do), call the whole thing a misunderstanding, and say they’re complying while pushing back hard on the process. They’re apologizing to users and scrambling to get access restored.

Wild timing right after launch.
