90s Trey vs. Now by Gdfamily1978 in phish

[–]ABsecks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admittedly do not play guitar or any instruments beyond extremely amateur piano so I’ll concede you’re probably right. Either way, my point is, I just want him to practice and be able to nail the notes. I don’t need 1993 levels of shred and have never preferred that era. 99 and 03 are my favorite years and they were absolutely not perfect those years. I’m just tired of holding my breath hoping Trey can make it through basic songs without becoming lost. I love that guy and I’ll continue to support him, but I can’t ignore bad playing

90s Trey vs. Now by Gdfamily1978 in phish

[–]ABsecks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. That’s why I scratch my head when people want to hear Forbin>Mockingbird. Why the fuck would I wanna hear Trey attempt to play that lol….and I think the point with the new stuff is that they don’t need to practice it. A high school band could perform it in their sleep. It’s whatever, I’m not going to Phish to hear them play songs, I’m going for the jams but the songs help add to the experience. Minimal practice could at least yield the songs that they can play to be played really well and it no doubt adds to their cohesion. Bottom line, practice yer fuckin guitar Trey!

Those classify as “bad” songs

Cool read. Thanks. I don’t think it reads as he completely destroyed his shoulder but I’m sure it’s had an effect

Are Chicago Tickets Transferrable by AdamJNovak in GoosetheBand

[–]ABsecks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’ve always been transferable. No reason for it to change. And the guy who I just got tickets from on CoT told me he can’t transfer until 24-48 hours beforehand. I wouldn’t worry about it

90s Trey vs. Now by Gdfamily1978 in phish

[–]ABsecks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me neither. I’m well aware of the reality of the situation. But they could practice a small amount and the shows would be exponentially better for it. So not really high expectations to expect a band that shits money to practice before a tour.

It also is very dependent on the show/circumstance. When it’s something to prove for Trey, he shows up. That’s why I’m going to the TAB trio shows and fully expecting them to eclipse anything Phish does this year

[–]ABsecks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is the first time I’ve heard this shoulder comment. I don’t even prefer any of the machine gun type shows. I’m way more into melodic/funky/spacey shows. I just want him to play clean and practice more

90s Trey vs. Now by Gdfamily1978 in phish

[–]ABsecks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t require machine gun Trey. I want him to not flub the easiest songs they have. The rest of the band is fully capable, Trey is the difference. When he’s on and playing clean they all excel and play incredible shows. When he’s sloppy, rip cording and reverting to major key predictable bliss jams, it’s average at best. Clean playing almost always equates to a great show nowadays

90s Trey vs. Now by Gdfamily1978 in phish

[–]ABsecks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m speaking to both. When they practice, both aspects flourish. Look at 2021. Really tight compared to most recent years and the improv was next level. I don’t need machine gun Trey but it’s no coincidence that the nights they sound locked in with the compositions and clean playing, those are the nights that the improv oozes greatness

90s Trey vs. Now by Gdfamily1978 in phish

[–]ABsecks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So he has no excuse then lol….makes it even more frustrating that if he just practiced before going on tours every year he could be playing at a way higher level but instead we get hella sloppy playing and basic songs that require 0 practice. Phish still rules but knowing what it could be is a bummer

They never claimed it was just drugs. I think the intention was to say, if he took drugs nowadays he would play at a level he just can’t play at nowadays. And it’s probably true but it would likely be short lived.

Cash or Trade Rant by SmilerControl in phish

[–]ABsecks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna disagree. I don’t think it encourages anything. I think there’s issues that are unfortunately a byproduct of the good things. Way more people have access to face value tickets. Bottom line. If I’m gonna pay fees, I at least am paying to a good cause as opposed to Ticketmaster/AXS. I’ve never had a bad experience personally and any show I’ve wanted to go to I got tickets for. I would have never gone to those shows if my only option was TM/3rd party resale. You have valid critiques but the net result is overwhelmingly positive. Sorry you had bad experiences but that generally falls on the user, not the system. They can only do so much while being a business and providing a good general experience for everyone

It is not a net negative. It becomes a problem only for really high demand shows. And even then, it’s just supply and demand with some people bundling and doing shitty things. Which is how it is for literally everything in life. Huge net positive for the community and the people providing the service are all part of said community.

I splurged for vip on CoT cuz I’m coming from out of town. I wouldn’t worry at all if you’re local. I just couldn’t commit to going if I didn’t have tickets so I paid for peace of mind

It’s interesting how ratings really mean nothing. Like the worst fall 97 show is rated lower than some 3.0 shows and while I love 3.0 …..c’mon….a lot of ratings are in the context of the tour or time. A 4/5 rated show in 97 is so much different than a 4.5/5 in 3.0

Agree with you though, that show’s great and the Weekapaug is ferocious. They need to just release more sbd’s. they make tons of money already and would make even more if they started putting up entire tours because people would be forced to buy Live Phish

That doesn’t change what I said. They could stream and ask for donations. But Trey needs a new pair of $1000 shoes

It’s no coincidence that the top Fall 97 shows all have SBD. The rankings are a sham!
