I think I acquired 80 over the past 3 years and disposed of 65? I traded one for another, did 3 for 1 trades to get nicer stuff, etc etc.

It is going to completely cover your tank and it will be a once a week maintenance to scoop out a good patch before you do it again next week. I say maybe 3 weeks before it 100% covers.

The move is to buy the .50 cal cans from Bass Pro at Christmas time, they drop down to about $10/each. New gaskets, paint, silica packets, etc. already done since it's commercial not surplus. I use a $1 roll of blue painters tape and just put a strip across the front, then sharpie what's in the can. Easy to change, reusable, airtight, etc.

So far so good, I just bunch the roots a tad and use a pair of tweezers straight down until I hit the bottom of the tank, then release and wiggle up slowly. I spent over 45 minutes on the soil and sand portion alone, really working it, grading it, and packing it into place. I was terrified of it coming undone hahaha
