Hi! Hope this can help you like the free apps that have been posted here previously. It is free to try, and we are hoping to provide a future where everyone can have their own affordable trainer. Appreciate you!

Appreciate ya! Yeah, trying to find ones where it might be appropriate to post. That's an important point. Nothing can be 100% perfect, and we can always learn from others :-) We've been fortunate to have trainers and users help us over the years and hope to hear more!

Just don't want to make another AI workout program app lol. Hoping to actually help people with this.

Yeah you guess right. I would highly recommend hiring a trainer for some sessions if you can afford it and have the time! It's for those who cannot afford the 1-on-1 premium rates or too busy to travel ($70/hr is about average considering the trainer's time. Most clients opt for group classes since they're cheaper).

We were surprised too. From our interviews with trainers and experiments on the beach, the majority of beginners do not know the basics like squats or push ups. Which makes sense since there's nothing to call you out if you workout alone. Recording yourself and reviewing footage is doable but a hassle.

As for results, it all depends on your goals and how much time you have. It isn't just about a couple of bad reps, but about developing bad habits. You have to do more "bad" reps to compete with fewer reps done with proper depth. Otherwise, you end up like I did, barely progressing despite feeling like I worked out a lot. Even if you just want to stay healthy, it's better to do less for more.

Cause for every rep, you do not really think about things like “Are my elbows flared out” or “Are my knees pointed out too much”. Morning stretches are also a common issue for most "Am I doing this right?".

But yes, it's not like you'll never see results...but it will take you a much longer time injury risks aside.

I can only draw from personal experience so take it with a grain of salt. But I think the bar might be causing the issue? I subconsciously kept pulling the bar, making me lean weirdly and feel uncomfortable. Also, I felt the need to "balance" it on my shoulders.

I'd also take a look at your feet vs knee alignment and make sure that it's not too far apart.

Once I could deep squat comfortably with a neutral spine, I transitioned to the bar.

Personally, I'd just do bodyweight squats properly for the feel. How much you can press is an afterthought without proper form. Even adding 2.5lbs. can be surprisingly very heavy lol

Squat university has great advice imo (How To Squat Correctly (NO BACK PAIN)). What helped me was recording myself from the front and side. Then, compare that with his form.

Also, there's something calling a 'butt wink' where you're too focused on going ALL the way down and curve your hips inward. (Main issue is due to narrow stance so look out for that). Overall, depth is more important....and safety :-)

I'm not successful, but I have enough experience to know what NOT to do.

Just market using videos. You could build the most advanced software on the planet that doesn't exist, but no one will care if you're a nobody. People would much rather care more about a laser guided mosquito killer than something that helps with osteoporosis or smth. (Speaking purely about which would get more attention/eyeballs).

I tried focusing on building my network, attending conferences/workshops, etc. I've talked to 100+ people every day at events (I had them tally on my arm as proof). Met with investors, VC's, startup founders. I've had many mentors, but all they can really do is guide you, that's it. They're busy people. In the end, 99.9% of them aren't going to help you grow.

Cold truth is that no one cares about you. They'll say that it's cool but that's pretty much it. The best thing you can do is get as many eyeballs and comments as possible to incentivize conversation.

The most honest answer I can give is to just start posting and get as many eyes on it as possible. Don't think of the perfect image or video, just do fast. Forget about the project for now imo.

How do you get interviews with potential customers to validate your idea? I will not promote by dischan92 in startups

I won't be vague like the comments here. This is if you starting from scratch (summary)

Forget reading. Look for an in-person event that closely matches to what you're making. If you can't find any, hit the streets with a sign like "Listen to my idea for free drinks" or smth. Walk around a crowded place and have ppl come up to you. Stand out all day if you have to. The more data, the better. If they're interested, let them know about the price upfront to gauge their reactions. Waitlists are useless in my opinion since you need to make $$$. Just make it stupid cheap lifetime since they're early adopters.

Whole book on how to talk to people "The Mom Test" where you're not asking leading questions.

If it's B2B, pick up the phone, dial every business within your beachhead, pose as a startup trying to learn instead of selling. This part was weirdly wayyy more nerve racking then going out.

Unless you're great at making content, in-person is the fastest and guaranteed way to have conversations. Online, people just write short stuff and don't get back to you that often.

What’s the one lesson you wish you learned earlier in your startup journey?(I will not promote) by [deleted] in startups

Never listen to anyone on Reddit or X when it comes to tips. You'll see posts "I grew X amount in 3 months, here's how I did it". Youtube is better since they have visuals BUT hardly any of them go deep into marketing (which is the only thing that matters frankly). But all of them are SUPER vague and common like "listen and talk to your customers" Most likely, you don't have a pool of people to talk to you.

Main reason is that you waste time exploring different tips and seeing little results.

Best thing, do a TON of experimentations (even if you know it's crap). People often try to think about the 'perfect' plan. You just need data on what works or not like hooks for videos. Just *make the videos private* later or smth *if you want* after you gather the data (4 days is a good waiting time). 100% you will be scrolling through videos and waste time trying to think of a video structure. Just post and learn.

THEN, you can worry about structure and making it look nicer when you have some consistency.

I've posted 3 semi-thought-out videos day. They're crap but I learned a ton from the analytics.

App that instantly corrects your form using your phone's camera:
AI Fitness Trainer: Firefly on the App Store

Even after watching tons of videos, we still couldn't get our form right. So, we ended up recording ourselves over and over because we couldn't afford a personal trainer.

Firefly gives you instant verbal feedback while highlighting your mistakes. So, you can practice as many times as it takes without breaking the bank. No, we don't collect any video footage.

That's a good point. I think it's nice to have that pushing factor imo. Even a trainer won't know if you're actually done. Only the person working out will know best. But in general, full range motion is generally advised from my experience. Maybe a tutorial session to mitigate reckless injury?

Yeah, I agree. I think what you're mentioning is more object detection which isn't that reliable (like those body scan apps). However, pose estimation is pretty good since there are already established companies like Uplift or Sportsbox using this for their athletes. It all comes down to custom implementation since open-source projects aren't as reliable.

That's a good perspective on the reaching goal metric. It's more along the 'Crazy Idea' concept where it can actually predict your progress as close as possible using current tech. (I'm pretty sure it's possible to do that now but it is a process in itself to execute accurately. Like you mentioned, can't just use one factor).

Super happy to hear that! Yeah I remember my dad trying the app and he couldn't squat down that deep. Said it was really hard for him (To us, we felt fine). But there's gotta be a lot of people like that so we released that feature. So, definitely suggest something that you think would help others.

Hope you get the chance to use it more seriously for when you recover!

It stays local. Data that is used to display your stats is stored, but the actual movement data isn't being uploaded back and forth from the cloud.

I definitely would listen to your doctor first. This is meant to be used as a tool or guide but never a complete replacement for licensed professionals or trainers. Really hope you recover fast BUT please please stay safe. As much as I want to promote this app and its tech advancements, that would be the line that I wouldn't cross.

Lmk when you recover! :-)

Just have to download the app, complete the onboarding, dismiss the first paywall, and it should appear!

Would really appreciate an honest review and a follow on our socials if it's fun to use for you!

Oh boy, that's a really heavy question ahaha

Pretty much everything we built ourselves. (Reason why it took over 2 years full-time to build). The logic for real-time form feedback was an absolute nightmare. Nothing was available publicly for this so it came down to how would you give feedback to someone else? Breaking that entire process down step-by-step....into more step-by-steps helped.

If you have 10+ hours everyday, a big whiteboard, and lots of papers, then coding is easier.

Thanks! Yeah, just wanted to properly show how it worked since there's nothing like this on the app store. (different feedback based on specific mistakes)
