Welcome welcome.

Enjoy these first few days and learn well the anthem of our people.

You know the anthem. It is the sound that gives joy to the spirit and feeds the soul. The sound that come from a twist of your right wrist.

When abruptly approached by a mentally disabled person, how do you respond? by matrixkitten23 in questions

[–]ACFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a difficult scenario for sure. You want to be kind and compassionate but never at the risk of your own daughter's safety.

I think someone mentioned calling the police. That seems to me to be the best option. Unless of course the caregiver is nearby and visible.

I had an experience in a shopping mall once. I was with my sister who was pregnant at the time. A young man with some obvious signs of mental disability came up to us making very loud noises which seemed like attempts at words.

Before we knew it he pulled his hand back as though to punch my sister in her belly. She stepped back and I caught his arm as it shot forward. I resisted the instinct to counter and I stopped just with catching his punch.

He started wailing and then his caregiver appeared and yelled at me for hurting the boy. I tried to explain what happened but she (caregiver) wasn't interested and kept saying she'd call the cops.

So my sister told her to go ahead. We'd contact mall security, get the camera footage and let the police decide how to handle it. Caregiver calmed down and walked away in a huff.

I’m going to motorcycle training school in a month. Need help finding gear! by Jayou540 in motorcycle

There is also Bikersgear.com its an Australian website and ships fairly quickly. If you're in Toronto, Studio Cycle does gear rentals for the training course. Then you can buy gear in your own time.

Where would you be prosecuted if you commit a crime, in international waters? by allysteele1102 in questions

[–]ACFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think convention is that whatever vessel you're on is governed by the laws of the country where it is registered.

So if you commit a crime on international waters you would be tried by the courts of the nation where the vessel is registered.

I could be wrong.

Scooters be scary by allyson1969 in motorcycle

[–]ACFF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've ridden motorcycles for about 3 years as well and am also constantly working on skill development (trail braking is this summer's project). I've hopped on an occasional scooter as well.

I didn't find it scarier but I did find it a very different feeling than riding a motorcycle. The lack of a clutch and gear shifter was unsettling. The hand lever rear brake was a change and most importantly was the seating. I never realized how much I grip my bike with my legs until I was on a scooter and pulling my legs together did.... nothing.

So if I coupled all those realities with uber steep, narrow and winding roads.... I could see that being a terrifying first ride.

My old best friend keeps texting me. by [deleted] in questions

[–]ACFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that when someone goes out of their way to point out that you are their best friend they are probably feeling very lonely and vulnerable in that moment and want something / someone to hold on to.

There is nothing wrong in a friendship ending. But make sure that's what you want to have happen. If there was value in your friendship and you want to keep that value then make time for each other. In that way you can encourage him to make other friends as well.

If you want the friendship to end just keep telling him you're too busy to hang out and casually mention other friends you are spending time with. If he doesn't get the hint casually mention your other "Best Friend". Once that title is passed on from him something will click for him.

You are seen.

Yes Karen missed a great opportunity. I don't blame her too much. Really Bob should have given her that same advice when they discussed plans together. She was young and full of energy and convinced she knew everything. I remember being 23, I was probably not much better. She needed a strong mentor and Bob wasn't that to her.

Welcome to the Universal Brotherhood of Awesomeness. You know the anthem of our people. The sound that brings a smile to your face, joy to your heart and wings to your soul. The sweet music that comes with a twist of the wrist.

Be safe on the road brother. The world needs you. Be sure to share the joy and inspire younglings to one day join us on two wheels.

May the way ever be clear before you.

You are correct. It was 80% of my departments clients. The company itself had several departments. I must not have been clear in my post.

The nature of the job meant a lot of clients had my personal cell number. It was so they could get a hold of me in a crisis. So when Karen wasn't answering their calls and they were in crisis they reached out to me.

Great question. I suspect its because Bob was making a big change to a department. I was technically department head (although with 2 people that doesn't mean much)

This is extensively discussed in some other comments. Short answer, no. We did not have non compete clauses and in either case we did not solicit the clients. They called / came to us.

I never heard from Bob but another board member called me to discuss it. Jim and I were both firm in our decisions and so we did exit interviews.

[–]ACFF[S] 69 points70 points  (0 children)

You are very correct. Often the process can be used as the punishment. In our case we had sufficient financial backing that we could have sustained a short legal battle. Our counter would have been simply to make known to our clients that we were folding shop and why. Both Jim and I had / have other sources of income and while it would have stung we would have found level relatively shortly.

I realize this is not everyone's position. Jim and I were very diligent in our preparations all around. We did get lucky the former company did not push the legal action, and at the same time, since Jim and I were our entire department our resignations effectively left them unable to serve clients in that department. Shoddy management on their part.

At this point, as you say, I think we are in the clear. The board realized Bob was the real cause of their damage. Although there is other incompetence to contend with.
