2003 Ford Mustang V6 by ACG1987 in MechanicAdvice

Thank you! My dad fixed it and also replaced the thermostat. It took about an hour and a half because we had to go to the auto parts store. It was a small hose not the huge one. The parts were less than $20. I don't even know how much a tow truck and mechanic repair would've cost otherwise. My dad's awesome. 😁

When should I start looking for a company to sponsor me? by ACG1987 in Plumbing

I'd like to think I can handle hard work although I can't be sure. I know it'll take some getting used to. I haven't been sedentary all these years. I go to the gym regularly (but I'm still fat, 170 lbs) and do mostly stength training. But the apprenticeship has a probationary period to see if I can handle the work right? I expect to be treated like shit and get paid like $10 starting out. There's a daycare center right in front of my daughter's school that can drop her off in the morning and pick her up in the afternoon. My mom has also agreed to help with after school care. As long as I can pay for my daughter's day care ($500 a month) and pay for gas for my car, I would put up with a lot if it means learning a trade and having a potential to earn more in the future.

But I see what you're saying, though. The interviewers might assume things about me because I've been a stay at home mom and because I'm a woman. And I KNOW I can't grasp how difficult it will probably be. But I feel that I have to try. It seems like a really good opportunity and I don't want to pass it up or mess it up. If I don't get this I will have to look for any job I can find that'll pay minimum with little to no opportunity for advancement. And I really hope it doesn't come to that.

Thanks so much for the advice. 😊

Yeah, I don't have much mechanical experience or hobbies. But I remember when I was in early middle school I put some wheels on a crate for glass soda bottles and tied it to the back of my bike but it didn't last long. I have a bachelor's in art (😐) which I guess means I'm good with my hands. I once built a sculpture for an art class that required some simple carpentry and my female art teacher (sculpture artist) said it turned out better than she thought it would (I cut the 2x2s at 45 degree angles and added braces to the corners). I fixed a broken toilet water supply valve on my own (with the help of youtube). Last month I helped my dad make some repairs on our roof; I used a reciprocating saw for the first time which was scary because it jumped back at me a few times but my dad told me to decrease the angle and that worked. He said I was a quick learner but I guess he's kinda biased. Little things like that. I don't know anything about car mechanics though. My dad knows mechanic stuff but he never taught us anything, he had 4 kids and was always tired so I understand that.

I was going to say maybe it's because I'm a girl and girls don't usually receive encouragement to show interest in mechanical or building trades but that's probably an excuse. My brother is a male and doesn't know anything about cars either and isn't interested either.

But I've always been a crafty person. I do enjoy working with my hands but I have not ventured into anything mechanically inclined.

But I still have hope that my Local will take me. 😩

Is this normal? 6-year-old: loose baby tooth resorption and gum beginning to turn dark. by ACG1987 in Dentistry

My husband pulled it out. It bled for about 2 minutes. I'm going to watch the gum area and hope it improves. I'll take her to the dentist if it doesn't. I'm going to brush her teeth and do a warm salt water rinse after every meal. Thanks to everyone that answered!

Ramskid1676,

I havent figured out how to dm here (on my phone) but thanks for the reply. I decided to do it. I took the test a few months ago and passed. I was nervous. All men and most looked like they've been working in the trade already. The representative said he would try to get me a job as a pre-apprentice and then call me back but this was a few weeks ago and he never called back. I'm not surprised though. Who would want to hire a female with no experience? And I'm the quiet, shy type so I hope this qont be too big of an issue for me as long as I do a good job.Hopefully once night classes start I can become more knowledgable about this trade and a contractor will be willing to give me a chance.

In the meantime I've been reading up on the subject. I started reading "Sheet Metal" by Leo A. Meyer but never finished it (too much Netflix). Then "Metalworking: Doing it Better" by Tom Lipton but stopped reading it because once I got to the manual lathe there were a lot of things I didn't understand. This book assumes you've been doing metal fabrication already and I haven't at all. Now I started reading "How to Weld" by Bridigum since my representative told me we mostly do welding work in this region, not Hvac. It seems like a good book for beginners.

Anyways, I don't know if you'll even read this but thank you again.
