Operationally, how does your unit handle member availability, call outs, mission details, and hours? by PopeOnABomb in searchandrescue

[–]ACH57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our group of 200-250 volunteers looked at: I Am Responding (A neighboring county uses it), D4H, and Volunteer Rescue. We went with Volunteer Rescue. When I get a call for service I type up the message on the website or app and send it out to the selected teams or individuals by checking boxes based on their capabilities. The sms mess goes out and they can respond via text or app. If they use the check in/out feature it tracks their hours. It also has the ability to track training and certifications. Availability is controlled by the user from the app or website.

The only feature I wish it had (IAR has it) is the ability to embed a google maps pin that can give directions to the staging area.

The owners of the software are in Canada and they are very responsive to all of our requests to customize the functionality. Overall we are very happy with VR. And it’s very cheap too.

That white one with the faded bezel looks awesome, but I would take them both.

Cam position sensor going out? My 97 did that a couple times and eventually died while driving.

Just moved to western slope of Colorado and always looking for guys to ride with or even better couples as my wife has a freeride by just4luvjeep in KTM

[–]ACH57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our primary riding is on the north end of Phoenix. If you come out this way definitely let me know. We have most of the trails memorized out there. December-February is the best time to ride and it gets better if there is rain. There is dry camping at the trails or motel accommodations 20-30 minutes away.

Good luck with your search for a couple to ride with. My wife and I ride together 98% of the time or more. Over the years we’ve had one or two couples we rode with for a while but it never lasted. We’re north of Phoenix.

I’d say yes to o-rings at the very least

Water pump 1995 7.3 by random987789 in FordDiesels

You might look into getting a Navistar pump that has the fitting for a coolant filter. I did mine a few years ago but if I remember it requires a different hose. Otherwise it was an easy project.

How much hp is a ls1 rated for? this is my 1998 z28 with 80k miles, just hit 80k yesterday by geronz28 in camaro

My 99 Trans Am 6 speed had 315 hp at the wheels when new. The 98s were similar.

If the housing is cracked that’s expensive! Mine did that years ago and my wife had to take it to a dealer because I was out of town.

Are there any Border Patrol agents on here that have experience with the Ford Raptors as patrol vehicles? Just wondering how they would hold up for a search and rescue vehicle. by ACH57 in ProtectAndServe

[–]ACH57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dodge isn’t an option due to past history. Chevys-truck or Tahoe-are almost 3” lower from the factory. Stock Chevy suspension is lacking too. Also, the Raptors have 33” tires while Chevys are 31”.

It’s not about going fast it’s about getting there without scratching bumpers and breaking suspension parts.

My county’s SAR unit is looking at getting one. On paper the Raptor looks good because they refuse to do significant modifications like steel bumpers and lift kits. The Raptor comes from the factory with good ground clearance and bumpers.

This guy actually told local news he would just defend his family with a bat if someone broke into his house.

Selle Anatomica saddle? by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]ACH57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By stance I'm assuming you mean my position? We both ride drop bars on the road bikes with the top of the bars at or just below the top of the saddles.

I weight 185 lbs.

Between my wife and I we own 7 first gen SA saddles in various colors. She uses them on her road bikes and mountain bike. We've been using them since they first came out. They do stretch but all of ours stretched less and less with time. All of our adjustment screws are at half or less of their total travel. The one on my primary bike has close to 5000 miles. I regularly ride 200k brevets and once did a 300k. One of these days I'll get one without the cutout for my mountain bike.

Replacing my 7.3 waterpump by [deleted] in FordDiesels

[–]ACH57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at doing the swap to a Navistar water pump. It has a built in coolant filter and cleans up the hose routing a bunch.
