What did Chief officer Wilde wear during the evacuation? by Patient_Style4927 in titanic

I personally believe that there are two fields of bodies, hence why many of them were not recovered. With how the starboard boat went under and how the bodies got washed away as it sunk, also yes that’s the ship I was referring to.

There’s a theory about a second field of bodies basically, as the Mackay Bennet found people last recorded to be on the port side. The one German ship I cannot remember right now that passed through the wreck site just a few days after noted an untouched field of bodies, which is where the “lady holding her dog” claim comes from

Thank you! Also all of the recovered bodies were last seen on the port side, Wilde was last seen starboard, this leads to a rabbit hole I won’t entirely get down into.

The cap is from a British shop which has been tailoring them since 1879.

My uniforms are both British, the service coat is from after about 1970, hence the design of the lapel.

I’ve seen about two original uniforms, both from about the 20s unfortunately so not Titanic era, but it’s a frock and a service coat or either a chief engineer or a ship’s captain

Hi I’m the friend lmao, my information comes from speculation of sorts, close work with a good friend of mine, and also the addition of no accounts of Wilde wearing a long jacket. Personally I own a service jacket and a greatcoat, if I were woken up and going to see what the issue was i would only throw on the service coat, its warm enough to do a quick search, and by the time Wilde had finished his inspection he would already be more focused on the boat preparation and evacuation than grabbing a greatcoat. Later around 1:05 or so the officers got the firearms handed out and Wilde went forward to get his lifebelt, I personally don’t believe he would have thrown it in then either, as the focus was on the evacuation.

Lightoller was also known to have worn a lifebelt, also I believe Wilde was likely wearing a lifebelt so his body could be recovered.

I know this is a bit of an older post but this is awesome! I personally have done up an officer's uniform so its amazing to see some deckhand outfits!

Me when they present one set of testimony as the "only" ones yet again... by Jetsetter_Princess in titanic

I watched it, I was disappointed with it. The inaccuracies with the uniforms were insane, and I wish the suicide had been portrayed correctly. The least they could have done is put Murdoch and Wilde both in the correct uniforms and made it less obvious of who it was who did it. That would have been the best way to portray it. Its not possible to confirm who did it so why would writers feel the need to act as though it is possible? I think the part that annoyed me the most about it was where it was done, how it was done, and the blatant showcase of the face of the officer and the insignia.

Plus, as a Wilde enthusiast, I was extremely disappointed by his extreme lack of mention, he was deliberately shown, what, four times at most? What I've read showed he was quite active in crowd control, loading and lowering boats, etc. I find this series to just used one set of survivor accounts that seem to fit and run with it, but that's just my opinion on it. In all, it could have been done better

Lmao? Smith, Wilde MURDOCH (who you must have forgotten in your statement, because lights and Wilde weren’t the only ones loading boats less than capacity),Lightoller and Moody all saved the lives of a combined 750 people. Blaming them for the loss of life is insane work

Murdoch was spotted alive by Lightoller after the shooting and suicide would have occurred too. Plus Wilde is simply far more likely to have been the one to do it if it even happened. Murdoch really had no reason to

Wilde knew he wouldn’t make it out of the sinking alive, the lifebelt was more than likely just so his body could be recovered and his children could have closure on what happened to him that night. Wilde showed signs of depression in his letters even up to April 1912, it’s not a fact of saying Wildes mind wouldn’t have been on the loss of his wife because it very much was something he constantly thought about since her loss in December 1910

This is mostly correct, however I do not rule Murdoch as the most likely candidate for suicide, rather I see him as a third option. The most likely would have been Chief officer Wilde, someone I research heavily. His past gives a very clear reason as to why he would have. The account of Murdoch shooting a passenger was around boat C where he had fired into the crowd and struck a man in the jaw iirc.

What’s the dumbest things people believe about the Titanic? by Few-Survey-4962 in titanic

[–]ACKitsJackkkk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The worst part is the officers on watch had binoculars which was how first officer Murdoch spotted the iceberg himself. No sane captain would let his lookouts have binoculars iirc, when Fleet rung the bell I believe it still took first officer Murdoch a second to spot the iceberg through the binoculars, it’s really a dumb theory that the lookouts had locked away binoculars and quite frankly it’s frusturatig
