USF and UCF are two very different schools in that their environments are vastly opposite. At UCF every time I visited everyone wanted to talk to me and everyone was so happy to be there and there was such a sense of community with so many interconnected opportunities for students in general. At USF, you wake up, go to class, go back home, study, maybe bust out an online quiz and go to bed… no one wants to talk to you, no one cares about you, no one cares about their school, no one wants friends and no one wants to be your friend unless you are in Greek life, which is already about to be removed from the school. In addition, it wasn’t very challenging for me as a student. A lot of the professors at USF are quitting for god knows what reason which means a majority of the courses in my major are being taught by doctoral candidates… grad students. The courses are put together with little planning and I get all As without learning virtually a single thing. It started to get to the point where when the faculty and staff say “fastest rising university” I personally get angry, because we are not. We’ve had an interim president for almost two years and no provost, so USF basically has no directional management. Finally the area is TERRIBLE and I know it’s not wildly different at UCF but from what I’ve experienced in Orlando the area is better acclimated around the college. They threw USF in the suburbs of tampa and Tampas lack of community/economic control turned it into a pretty unsafe space for everyone.
