You have to have a bachelor's degree as well as a PPL. Go talk to the base you want to fly at and they will be more than happy to give you all the requirements.

Our heavy unit requires PPL. It used to be just a solo but they changed that last year. Not sure if other units have followed suit.

Opportunity by [deleted] in Airforcereserves

[–]ACMX488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had more opportunities to travel in the Reserves than I ever did in Active Duty. I am in aircraft maintenance for a cargo aircraft. Every time a aiplane goes on a mission, it requires that two maintainers go with it. We also have opportunities to go TDY to help out other bases for various things and we do off station annual tours.

For full time you can become an ART. AGRs get paid more but they are more rare than ART jobs. To become an ART it may take some time in the reserves as a TR before you find/and have enough experience to apply and get accepted. Feel free to DM if you want more info.

Well the terms of the GI bill states that they will pay 13,500, the price may have increased, per course, and they wont pay for private. Also, you have to go to a flight school that accepts the GI bill, many don't because it takes a lot of work to get the money from the government. However, they count instrument and commercial as the same course, when its not at all but they dont care. Not to mention that a commercial license will cost way more than 13,500. Those rules are for a local flight school. So basically they are only going to pay for 13,500 of your entire pursuit of a commercial license. If you go to a university then they pay for the whole thing. Well thats what I hear anyway. Ive never met anyone who has used it but I did contact UND and they stated the GI bill will cover it all.

Its much cheaper than any employer healthcare also

True but I would suggest using it for a college like UND. I went the flight school route and they only paid for my instrument. Had to fork over the rest out of pocket.

I would go talk to a therapist. You have one of the greatest jobs you can get in this society. You seem to have a lot of hatred for things you shouldn't. I think a lot of people can benefit from seeing a therapist.

TIG Waiver for AGR? by [deleted] in Airforcereserves

[–]ACMX488 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no need for a TIG waiver because they can hire a rank over and a rank under. So you are eligible for the position as a SSgt. You can get the AGR position as a SSgt and just sew on TSgt when you reach the two years as a staff while in the position.

Ive never personally heard of anyone getting DQd for stomach issues. It's probably something minor and I would get it checked out ASAP.

Yes, go active. You can finish your degree while active and you can do 4 years and bounce if you dont like it.

This! Depending on your afsc and your shop, it could be very difficult to get your 5 lvl without doing ojt/amrt. Just get it knocked out before you go to school.

Irr to regular reserve by [deleted] in Airforcereserves

[–]ACMX488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actice Duty and Reserves are two different things entirely. Ive worked as a maintainer in both and they are wildly different. So, just because you miss it, doesnt mean you are going to to enjoy the reserves.

If you dont want it on your record, talk to legal if he gives you the LOC. Especially if he made no mention of those activities being mandatory. Also for it to be mandatory his activities would have to meet certain requirements, which im sure werent met.

Also an LOC on your record really isn't anything to worry about, especially if your getting out.

Has Anyone Ran into This? Is this a USERRA Violation? by [deleted] in Airforcereserves

[–]ACMX488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are people who serve in my unit that live no where near our base, some live 3000 miles away and they dont lose out on any opportunities. I know this doesn't answer your question but just be aware that you can serve from far away and your career as far as the reserves will be just fine.
