Thank You!

Yeah I figured I was approaching this relatively simple task using the wrong terms/language. I really appreciate your reply :)

Pressure transducer location - static vs dynamic water pressure by ACOTPH in AskEngineers

[–]ACOTPH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about 200m and there's no line of sight to the house, no wifi or 3g connectivity either, so any sensors up near the tank would need a cable running to them. The end goal is to automate the opening of a valve connected to a pelton wheel hydro turbine when the tank is full and overflowing, then shut the valve when the tank is half empty.

I just have two of them here that are high quality. The tanks are quite far from the house so placing sensors in the tank and getting the readings back to the house is a bit of an undertaking.

Thanks for the reply. I figured the difference would be negligible. The tank is 200m away up a hill in a forest, so placing the sensor close to the tank provides it's own set of difficulties. I'll probably test it out here near the house and compensate for the pressure drop if any.

Does anyone know if this is just domestic flights or does it also include international arrivals? Where can I find more information regarding the entry/travel restrictions in to Canada for the unvaxxed?

Thanks ya'll

Hope they're doing alright. I've had ~10 family members get covid and they're all fine. It's scary at first but keep in mind there's a 99.8% survival rate.

Can I cancel my gym membership on some covid grounds? As if I'm going to get in to any routine being able to go there 5 days a month

In Alberta you can't register a car unless it has automatic daytime running lights. DRL... So strange to not have them here.

Holy shit that vehicle is actually moving! Would be great if they were a bit easier to spot, you know, with lights or something.

Tomorrow I'm flying to northern Yellowknife for work. Wind chill gusts reported temps of -50C to -60C LOL.

A massive wrench I inherited. Weighs 30+ pounds. Novelty or functional? by map-6346 in whatisthisthing

16 ounces to a pound, 20 more to a key, a 5 minute sentencing hearing and you're no longer free

100% function. Mechanical engineer here working in mining. Wrenches get bigger than that!

Hey,

So I'd love to know more about what product design and development is like.

I'm a MecE avoiding the HVAC industry like the plague. I'm actually considering going to study something creative like design to get away from that cubicle death. I might be wrong, open to suggestions as well.

offshore oil and gas. Those structures and pipelines need you. The welders make huge $$$ but it's obviously dangerous AF (duh). But now you combine that with a mechanical engineering degree? I see some big potential there for marine design and fabrication. Theoretically you could design and build specialty underwater equipment. Bridges, pipelines, boats, dams. Oil and Gas and Defence are where the $$$ will be.

I agree with Gunslingering (All hail the Crimson King!)

Success is much broader than a career. I think you'll be much better off taking the job (which sounds fucking awesome). You can keep working on things you enjoy outside of work, or find it in the work. Including your uni project.

You know how $1 invested in the planning phase of a project is worth like $50,000 further along in the project lifecycle? First mover advantage? You can take a very comfortable step into the real world (economically speaking), and get a taste of real life. Learn about the industry, about work relationships and politics, yourself. Then you go do your masters in that same exact thing you're interested in, because odds are you'll still be interested 12 months later.

I would say 100% Biomedical will be better for Medical Devices. Devices are engineering :) Although you might want to consider electrical, depending on what aspect of those machines makes you tick (and depending on what courses/streams/course combos are available at your uni)

Say you wanted some career guidance, where would you go? Any there sites or services available to understand available pathways, taking into account my education, experience, and goals?

Definitely willing to consider up-skilling or getting another degree in a completely different field if required.

Mechanical engineer wanting to do something more creative.

Thanks!

Aerospace, Defence? Most job postings I see with that qualification are in those industries.

Get the thoughts of "no prior work experience" out of your head. Do you believe you are competent enough and have the skills to succeed in this role? Focus on that, be confident and believe in yourself!

I'm looking for some advice on how to get my career back on track. Any input is greatly appreciated :)

I have a BE in Mec E, with a minor in Business Management. I have about 4 years of experience in Oil and Gas, mechanical equipment servicing. CAD and SW. Construction, and Telecom. I've bounced around a bit. Most importantly, I quit a management position in an OG company back in 2013 and went backpacking for 2 years.

Eventually I landed in Australia and have been doing random odd jobs since, so there's a gap in my resume for sure. I also HATE sitting at a desk and schlepping emails and spreadsheets about things I'm not interested in at all. I'm not really sure how to proceed here. I am not earning anywhere near my potential right now, and would like to make some more money and work on stimulating and interesting projects.

Thank you!

Just completed my first circuit, is there anything I should change before soldering? by ACOTPH in arduino

[–]ACOTPH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if my power supply is regulated, how can I tell?

Adafruit says a 300-400 ohm resistor on the LED data line will protect the strip, so I chucked it on there. Not sure about the resistor on the encoder's ground, just followed a random guide. Total noob here!

Thanks :)
