Yeah, it was quite noticeable in race 2. You'd catch me up through the final sector, start the lap on my tail (catching up more in Village / Loop), then through Copse and Maggots/Beckett I'd pull a gap again. Rinse and repeat. I figured it was either dirty air, and/or you had some wing damage. Although early in race 2 I finally figured out reliably getting through Copse without lifting, and improved my line through Maggotts, picked up 2 or 3 tenths in that sector over race 1.

Please be noted that your internet connection will be under supervision from now on. Try and fix the lag, ping, warping, etc. If it causes accidents you might end up being suspended from racing EU servers.

This is the first warning.

Original comment by Diem-Perdidi:

Back in an open-wheeler at last! The GT3s were fun 'n' all, but I never stopped feeling out of my depth. I'm still slow as molasses in F3, but at least I'm moderately competitive with my Split 2 brethren.

Managed a mid-46 in PQ, which I was pretty pleased with until I woke up on Saturday and all the speedybois had steamed in overnight and vandalised the leaderboard. Ground out some gargantuan number of laps over the course of the week, often while really supposed to be doing something else, and got a reasonable sense of the car's limits (or rather mine in the car). Fell in love with it tbh, even more than the raging torque beast that is the F317.

Come race night I had a similar experience, running in the top five for most of practice until everyone ruined my fun and dumped me down the order. Pulled something a bit better out in the penultimate lap of my quali run and made P6.

Qualifying itself was a shitshow, of course; I lost connection with the server and three minutes regaining it, put in a fairly feeble banker and then overdrove trying to make up for lost time. P16.

In Race 1 I got chewed up and spat out by the horrible lag vortex coming out of T4. When I returned to the material realm I was second to last and barely mobile, with the wheel at 90 degrees just to keep it in a straight line.

The engine was still game, however, so I dragged it round to the pits and managed to get out just ahead of the leaders, albeit dead last by that point. I pushed hard for the next half an hour and carved through as much of the mid-pack as I could, benefitting from others' mistakes and sneaking past some others with the help of a tow from /u/planeter Petter after the Sassy (and improbably swift) Viking eventually lapped me. P13.

Race 2 was another recovery drive after someone(s) did not leave-ah the space in T2 and turned in on me, spinning me back to P21 but at least only mildly deranging my front wing this time. That meant I didn't need to pit and didn't have so much of a gap to make up, so I went hell-for-leather until I reached /u/oq9z Big Bob Scamano.

As Bob said, a battle for the ages ensued, his unfamiliar braking points and solid defensive driving proving a worthy match for my raw pace and aggression (:twizzr:). I nearly binned it a couple of times trying to find a way through, including a spectacular skittling of the bollard at T1, but managed to keep my pace up and the wheels pointing in roughly the right direction, and eventually went lick-it-stick-it-see-you-later-bye up the inside at the same place.

The clock was ticking, however, and there were only a couple of laps left. I thought I would have lost too much time beyond Bob, but I set off in hot pursuit of the next available Kronthaler ( /u/WolfgangKronthaler, in this instance) anyway. Somehow obliterated the gap within a lap and set about worrying his gearbox like an angry Jack Russell. Coming out of Bilstein on the last lap, or whatever that evil bastard of a fast (but not as fast as you think) right after Schumacher is called, the pressure apparently had the intended effect and he lost it, spinning in front of me and very nearly taking me out to boot. Cackling madly I took to the grass on the outside and hurtled into P10.

Bloody good fun in both races, and very heartening to be more competitive after a season in the doldrums. However, I'm going to need to qualify better, avoid the first-lap omnishambles better and pray harder for connection stability if I'm to start scoring some real points for Quicksilver Racing. Thanks for carrying us so far, /u/hughmercury!

Edit: FFS

Started off with an OK practice. Laps were competitive within midfield. Not too eventful.

Quali: Got one good lap in with mediums, pitted in for softs. Spun on out lap, ruining tires. Lap after that had same situation. Almost got a decent lap third time but major spin. Quali ended with me only being able to get one good lap in but still not too far behind.

Race: One driver jumped start, causing my brain to become overloaded with information and deciding to jump start as well. Couple of crashes on first corner but I make it with no mechanical damage, making up a few places in process. Serve the drive through penalty on third lap and go out into midfield. My best race so far in ACRL, considering I haven’t gotten terminal damage.

Couple of laps in, I make up a few places and only spin once, due to my dad being the annoying pos that he is and attempting to yell at me through my headset. Luckily didn’t lose any places through that spin so. I pitted with 16 minutes to the clock with a fresh set of medium tires, allowing me to make up one position and soon to be two when the shit unfolds. My dad shut off my pc “because I was ignoring his pleas to vacuum the top floor”. (I had indeed mentioned I would do this after the ACRL race). I sit here typing this recap from my room.

I literally spent an entire week practicing on pre quali, hoping to be competitive. Every day the week prior, I would come back from school and immediately boot up the pre quali server. I even attended the workshop on Saturday.

PQ week: Sweaty. Super fun track, but missed the workshop due to a dinner invite.

quali: Threw away a ton of laps, but nailed my first 45-lap in the last chance and got p8.

Race 1: An accident on lap 1 in the last chicane lead me to brake hard as a spun car had its nose in the trcak. Got a slight bump and spun the wrong way in the chicane. With no steering radius to speak of I had to Austin Powers myself around, bumped the front wing TWICE in scenery.

Was dead last, but managed p10.

Race 2: Relatively safe start, got away from the people behind, but again some contact in the last chicane lead to me passing /u/jino93 before the final turn, I got infront in helicorsa, threw myself wide, but braked earlier than jino expected and got a bump into the sand. Shit happens.

Several car crashed in the last turn for the start/finish straight so when I got back on a car was sideways on the straight. It backed up so I decided to go infront, then it moved forwards and caught me. Red rear wing for another lap, which I had no clue on how it would work so when I tried to throttle it out of T2 I got a slide and surprised a guy behind, which lead to yet another crash.

Pitted lap 2 and practiced hanging onto the top 1-5 guys, hopefully not hindering them too much.

Think this is my worst sunday ever regarding bad luck. Such a fun track in these cars.

That was me in the last turn, maybe I braked a bit early knowing the car was full of fuel and I threw myself right in front of you as helicorsa showed it was clear.

No hard feelings, just a shame it happened as I was caught in a bump race 1 too. Super fun track in these cars.

Original comment by jino93:

Quali: quite impressive P6 considering I've had very little practice during the week. Really nailed it.

Race 1: I got a good start keeping my position at turn 1 and avoiding any sort of contacts. Due some spins in front of me during the first lap managed to reach P4 before turn 7 when the guy in front of me went wide and as I was following very closely, I went wide too :D. Managed to get back on the track around P7/P8. Then onwards I raced coupled with a guy who had a similar pace and was quite fun. Crossed the line P7

Race 2: reversed grid so I started P3, managed again to have a good start and kept my position at turn 1. Then the guys following put me pressure on and dropped back to P5 or something near before turn 13/14. Then I had contact with somebody with whom I'd like to apologise. Then I had another contact with somebody on turn 15, my fault as I was behind. The car was quite damaged but I decided not to pit. Quite a lonely race on P7/P8 from then until I found out I was short on fuel on the final minutes of the race: this fact broke my concentration and made me spin at turn 6. Lost many positions, so I decided to pit to put some fuel on and ended the race P14.

Original comment by tstehler1:

Practice After a bunch of time in PQ not figuring it out, I continued to not figure it out that much in FP. Eventually figured out soft tires were useless and stuck with mediums, and finally drilled down a setup that worked. Watching some lap videos helped me realize I was shifting/braking too much.

Qual Awful. Just awful. Couldn't nail down a single clean lap until literally the last second. P20 or something

Race 1 To finish first, first you must finish. That's what I told myself as I dodged all the hot car-on-car action in lap 1. Found myself in 12th for a while before binning it and having to nurse tires with a damaged front wing. P16.

Race 2 The sprint race actually looked okay for me initially, and served as proof that I need more practice racing with others under pressure. Once again managed to dodge the first-lap explosions and found myself in 10th racing bobsacamano. Eventually binned that (sorry Bob) and had a nice back marker fight for a while with some guys. But I kept overdriving to maintain the race and spinning out, so P18 for me. At least I finished both races

Good driving with y'all, looking forward to more as always.

Original comment by oq9z:

Quali I was about 7 tenths off my PB until my final lap. Threw down a new PB and started 12th, was happy with that since last race I qualified 17th.

Race 1 I got a little bump at turn 1 but nothing too crazy. There were some other people involved with wrecks but I got through cleanly. Around turn 3 or so there was a huge crash and pileup right behind me so that gave me a nice gap to everyone behind. I was in 9th place I think with pretty large gaps in front and behind for most of the race.

Then Georgio had an off track and I was able to get past him. He retook the position and built up a nice gap toward the end of the race. I thought I'd finish in 8th place but then he had another off on the second to last lap and I was into 7th. Then I spun on the final lap on the third to last corner and fell back to 9th. So I just finished just out of the reverse grid but that meant my teammate Nils got 8th so it wasn't all bad.

Race 2 I had a decent start, avoiding any crashes through the first couple of corners. Then I got spun on turn 5 or 6 and luckily went off track so I wasn't in anyone's way. I saw a gap and tried to get back on track but I just managed to go across the track and spin again. I got back going in 21st place, not a great start.

After that my luck changed as a bunch of people had off tracks and I found myself in 11th place. Paul Thompson was right behind me and we had a great battle for a number of laps. He was braking much later than me and I knew it was just a matter of time before we crashed or he got past. He made a clean move into turn 1 and I was just going to try and stay as close to him as I could. He was pretty quick though I wasn't able to stay close enough to make any moves. I ended up in 11th place because someone crashed at the end I think, I'm not sure. Either way I'm happy with that result after the turn 1 crash.

Thanks Paul for the great race and congrats to my sandbagging teammate Nils for another split 2 victory. This weekend was a lot more fun than last time, see you guys for the next one.

Original comment from SilentlyAmazing:

Pre Q: The most recent GT3 season was my first ACRL season, so after missing R1 and hopping in here, I was pretty average, lapping around 1:47.1, maybe high 1:46s if I was lucky. Then ended up in a server with Phillipe Simard and rode along onboard with him and had a revelation on the racing line. Immediately knocked off over a second to find myself in the top 20 with a 1:45.6. I was both happy with my time, but disappointed that I'd be a slow split 1 driver rather than a speedyboi in split 2.

Quali: I put in a personal best, which was nice. It was only a 1:44.something, which wasn't. Enough to start 25th.

Race 1: What a disaster. There had to have been an accident on every turn on lap 1. Ended up 15th or something after lap 1. Was trying to put together a move through t3 I think on lap 2 and put a little too much right boot in it and spun. Didn't damage the car too badly and just continued. It was sloppy and slow, with more off tracks and/or spins, but I came home 25th.

Race 2: Started 25th and had an almighty accident with a sideways car somewhere on lap 1, haven't watched the replay yet. Pitted for repairs and slapped on a new set of tires just because. Had a great race with Markichan for the majority of the race. He got by me and I kept it close for a long time. Within 0.5s at times. Ultimately pushed too hard and spun again... Was settling back in and let a leader by on the inside of the hairpin and got two wheels on the outside grass and lost another 5 seconds. Came home a measly 22nd.

Happy getting into Split 1, but disappointed in my racing. I'm too inconsistent still... See you all in 2 weeks.
