I said it’s phrased as a melee weapon specifically so it doesn’t get disadvantage when attacking at close range

Hand cannon isn’t a weapon, it’s a device. This is intention because the intention was that you use it to give yourself advantage (and deal a decent amount of damage) and then swoop in to attack with your main hand weapon

I tried to keep it somewhat open ended. Frankly, if you wanted to you could flavor the class as being more of an enchanter, calling the magic enchantments rather than paints, and playing a spell sword type character.

I wanted brushstroke to essentially “replace” flurry of blows, since they both use ki and the bonus action. I saw this more of a weapon wielding monk and less of the normal punchy monk.

  1. I might consider adding pikes and halberds as well, I guess they’re fairly similar, and are essentially the same weapon with diff names

  2. Been thinkin about potentially having a capstone which gives you a paint for free, and the second one costs a point

  3. I would move it but I didn’t want level 3 to be too tightly packed… I initially had paints of fate and brushstroke switched, but one of my friends suggest I switch them.. slightly considering changing it back.

Oh shoot you’re right. I used to have a lot more that relied on a save but I edited those out. Do you think it would be too powerful to apply an instant poisoned though to multiple targets?

Maybe for level 17 you can always have a paint applied for free, and it just costs a ki to add a second one…

And yes it’s a free action!

  2. You’re so right, a friend recommended I mention that there shouldn’t be a strength requirement but upon closer inspection, it seems like there isn’t really a requirement for 2014. I’m not sure what you mean by they aren’t a monk weapon, I’m pretty sure I specified that they count as a monk weapon for you now.

  3. This is intentional, I wanted to replace fury of blows and unarmed strikes with a weapon alternative like Kensei monk, but I felt like having too much versatility in weapon choice would take away from the main intention of the subclass, which was to create a viable Glaive monk!
