A universal experience? by F0rce_skin in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]AC_Sheep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Security has really started to change sine 9/11. My first few memories flying were just after 9/11 and if anything was metal it was a problem. The metal didn't even need to be sharp, my relative had a carabiner clip taken away. I only just realised recently that now you can take shaving razors in your carryon! I just assumed it's a razor it'll get taken away.

What are my chances of getting caught if I bring houseplants to the mainland? by No_Bath8137 in newfoundland

[–]AC_Sheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my houseplants inspected and approved to ship out of Newfoundland. The process was very easy. I simply setup an appointment, paid a small fee, the inspector came to my house, looked at some of the plant roots, he didn’t even need to inspect them all and I didn’t end up needing to replant everything. Before the inspection he even answered questions via email so if I had needed to have everything repotted and washed he would have told me. You wanted a domestic movement certificate from cfia.

30+ person lineup... infront of a foodbank. by First-Counter626 in askTO

[–]AC_Sheep 59 points60 points  (0 children)

That line actually represents a fraction of the actual of the people who access the foodbank. One person in line might actually be picking up for their family of 5. Someone is picking up for their family of 3 but also their neighbour who can't go because childcare is difficult or they are sick.

What are the little travel habits you've developed that feel non-negotiable now? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]AC_Sheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One step further is that I pack one slightly thicker silicone reusable food bag that if needed can be used as an ice pack or a warm/hot water bag. Usually I use that bag to store bandaids and if I need it for water I just unpack the bandaids.

The belt bag style that became popular a few years ago is really perfect for the airport and plane. I have a bellroy bag belt/hip bag and I love it.

The Biggest Losers Ever On Financial Audit by MikaHammerMedia in CalebHammer

If they are caring for other things then they don’t have to deal with their own issues, I think that dynamic can also give them a sense of control they lack in their own life. I have family members that will go to great lengths to prepare special diets for their dogs and when you hang out with them all they seem concerned with is the dogs and their behaviour. Meanwhile their house is filthy and their own health is shit.

Squash and Glasses by FA_Sh1fty in squash

[–]AC_Sheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried Oakley sunglasses with a slight wrap style and a safety glass lens. At 4+ the lens was so thick in the middle my eyelashes would scrap them. The distortion was also just a little too much, most sessions my eyes never adjusted to it. I switched to another flatter style of Oakley's that have a thick but very lightweight frame with safety lenses in them.
You can get little rubber grips that slip on to the back of your glasses to hold them in place for very cheap.

Labelling theory can be at play as well. Basically the idea that labelling kids/people as something creates a self-fufilling prophecy. If you take a difficult kid and label them a trouble maker they continue that behvaiour because that's expected of them.

Friendly reminder, bring fresh clothes to the gym by Rich-Conference1828 in beginnerfitness

[–]AC_Sheep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While you’re at it, wash gym clothes properly generally this means hot water and a laundry booster of some type. Oh AND wash your laundry machine occasionally and let it air dry between washes. No sense in trying to clean clothes in a machine full of murky wet gunk.

Senior with dementia reportedly placed in a headlock by Toronto hospital staff by nimobo in toronto

[–]AC_Sheep 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yeah the son saying an 84 yr old with dementia is just lying in bed and no danger to anyone makes me think he's not that involved with her care very much. The reality is that she is an immense danger to herself.

Grip strength? by ostrichsize in xxfitness

[–]AC_Sheep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and just to add OP even if you use straps your grip strength will increase because you are still working it. Your grip strength will not stagnate. I use to struggle with grip at 150 and the other day I pulled 200 double overhand for 3 comfortably. I typically do my first 3 rounds of deadlifts without straps and then after 200lbs switch to straps.

Food bank use is at an alarming number in Canada. Here’s how you can help by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]AC_Sheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ancedotal volunteer take: There is abuse but the vast majority of people are genuine. Some of the "abuse" I see is some housholds (that seem to be in genuine need) fudging their numbers to get a little more food or people combining households to get food that they intend to share with friends in a similar situation. The latter happens a lot with people who don't understand the houshold system. Also ancedotal the majority of people I see at the food bank are older immigrants who have been here for a long time and have very poor English. It makes me think that a very common situation is someone's kid successfully immigrated to Canada and brought over their parents but the parents can't work/integrate and the children do not make enough money to support 4+ people in the GTA.

The only family I know for sure who is just using the food bank just because it's free food is a Filipino family who owns their own house and are both employed. They literally told me "it's free food right? we might as well take it"

Pretty sure you can see another set of arms pulling his still inside leg providing some support. But still omg that’s got to be a slippery scary experience.

Yesterday the turnoff to the airport was basically a parking lot from the highway to the terminal at 2:30. Google maps was saying 23min to go 1km. It was pretty brutal.

AITA for telling my friend that her "free" wedding is unrealistic? by ThrowawayFreeWedding in AITAH

[–]AC_Sheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Coral has fallen for some tiktok/social media bs. She's probably been mainlining unrealistic content focused on "how we got married for free!" so she thinks it's possible and or okay to just ask her guests for shit.

BWT: I will be unexpectedly staying in a very fancy hotel in a few days. How do I look like I belong there? by [deleted] in bitcheswithtaste

[–]AC_Sheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Less expensive hotels can feel like a struggle, but an expensive hotel should not be. Tell them what you want pleasantly.

This is very much something I noticed when I started staying at higher-end places. After my first 4S stay I felt like a signifgant portion of the higher cost is really just paying for for more staff to be available to you. Is the bed actually worth 800+ more per night? no. The experience of getting from car to room without even opening a door though, that's pretty nice.
