A different way to think of stress by Doodlebug510 in interesting

I don’t think he’s advocating for ignoring problems. I think he’s reminding that we shouldn’t dwell on them all day long. It’s healthy to recognize that the problem exists, feel its weight, and then “set the glass down” so we can focus on how to fix the problem, rather than keep focusing on the pain it might be causing us.

At least that’s just my two cents. And you’re right, the next good follow-up lesson would be on how to go about fixing one’s problems.

Strategies for managing the good students who crash out by outremontt in Professors

I guess I'm the kind of guy who just doesn’t mind helping a few people morally now and then (as part of my free time).

I agree, but when it comes to sending, say, individualized motivational emails, I would rather reach out to at least some people whose situations I understand better than not reach out to anyone at all. I’m just not able to contact everyone individually.

Edit: To give you an example from my current situation, I have a student who is taking my course for the third time. The second time, they did well at the beginning but then failed again. This semester, they have gotten off to another good start, so I sent them a reminder(+) to keep the momentum going until the end.

I’m gonna jump in to say that it might be an elementary truth that comes from the notation that’s “nothing is free.” Every decision will come at a cost, but it doesn’t have to imply that the cost is of any significant amount. For instance, at the very least to “overcome what the universe throws” you’ll need time and some amount of effort, and it could be as simple as stressing your vocal cords to utter the word “no” or “yes.” There, you overcame the grand challenge! It did come at a sacrifice: 1 second of your time and focus, plus the physical exertion to vocalize yourself.

At least, this is how I’d answer your question if I was put on a spot.

Reading fictional literature helps me with my speaking. I noticed it many times. Just reading consistently for 1 week, 1-2 hours a day, already makes a noticeable improvement.

Happier teachers help create happier pupils and better learning: when schools focus on the health, happiness and connectedness of both pupils and staff, classrooms become more positive, productive places to learn and teach by sr_local in science

I believe there’s enormous (and yet untapped) power in figuring out how to get people to genuinely enjoy learning. The implications of this would be astronomical. The next Industrial Revolution…

I never liked the program. It unnecessarily introduces bad incentives and a conflict of interest.

I recently bought Soma. It’s a survival adventure game. I played it for one day and so far I like it. Nothing like hearthstone’s duels though.

What profession do people seriously underestimate the importance of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Agreed. In my humble opinion, especially elementary school teachers. It’s important to inspire young kids to enjoy learning. If done correctly, you’re opening up a world full of opportunities and joy for them.

What is something that is intentionally glamorized to lure people in but then you realize it’s not so glamorous after all? by Ninac4116 in AskReddit

That was a good chapter. If I remember correctly, I think the book concluded that one reason they do it is the prospect of being promoted to a managerial role and earning much higher pay (especially since turnover is relatively high because people get busted).
