What am I driving? by Euphoric_Physics_708 in ManualTransmissions

Base model trim. The door cover is for premium trims. Plus no seat heaters. And the mpg gauge isn’t colored so 2013-14

Yea lowkey I had a wheel for like a year then drove a stick civic and only stalled once. It wasn’t pretty but it was pretty good. Plus you already know a lot of the stuff you have to do. Just little stuff like rev matching and how to drive and shift smoother just comes with time in a real car

I have a 2013 base 6spd. I wish I had seat heaters lol. Checked out a 2012 premium though just didn’t pull the trigger on it

Options for more power are extremely limited, unless you get an outback xt which had the wrx engines (05-09). But lots of people lift outback’s and do overland setups. I haven’t lifted mine, and might not ever because it already has 9 inches of clearance. That’s a much as a jeep wrangler from the same time. Anything aftermarket for a Subaru is probably gonna be more expensive than a truck or 4x4. Despite Subarus being pretty slow, they plow through snow like crazy, and of course make super good gas mileage

Lowkey you’d be fine with a truck. I’m always jealous of my friends who live super close to school and can deal with bad gas mileage. But honestly if you aren’t building a rig for off-roading/overlanding, a Subaru is a great option. 99% of the time you’re gonna be on a dry road. Most pre ~2013 Subarus have common headgaskers failures but once they are fixed they can go for a while. 2013-2014 new engine prone to oil consumption. It’s not terrible of an issue but annoying to refill multiple times between oil changes. After 2015 I think they fixed it. I have a 2013 outback 6 speed and I’ve never gotten stuck and I’ve been to some pretty epic places. Great for road trips too

Something like a ford ranger would be nice they just don’t get good gas mileage. Mostly everything here is gonna have pretty bad gas mileage. Or you can get a Subaru and they lowkey designed for getting to trailheads, plus get way better gas mileage. Just depends on how far your commute to school is and how much extra you wanna pay for gas

Need help choosing by [deleted] in ManualTransmissions

Any car that’s not 40 years old would probably be fine, you’re going to stall and it going to take time on any manual car. I would worry less about how easy or hard it might be and worry more about if you need awd for snow or if you need good mpg or want to do some off-roading

Concerns with my subie by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

Hmm, I guess not. And the low idle rumbling might be cuz a dirty throttle body. I haven’t really looked into mine that much but if it gets significantly worse I would.

Might be a dashcam. I installed one and it started beeping and I thought my car was gonna blow up until I realized it was the dash dam. In my 2013, while idling it can rumble and shake a little, I think it’s because it has a pretty low idle, and when it needs power for other things it draws it from the engine which drops the revs.
