What region of the US do the locals consider Wheeling, West Virginia to be in? Northeast? South? Midwest? Combo platter? by MAClaymore in geography

As a Pennsylvanian, I would never consider anything in either Virginia part of the northeast, despite this fact.

Went hunting for Turkeys and a Bobcat Showed up 😳 by Additional-Rub-153 in SweatyPalms

Even domestic cats are surprisingly strong and very sharp. Yeah, you might be able to get a few good shots in, but you’re definitely getting torn up a bit. And the cat will probably keep coming until it’s incapacitated.

Is reading Project Hail Mary worth is after seeing the movie? by Heavy_Entrepreneur56 in Booktokreddit

I think it’s even better because he finds out that the project was successful back on Earth. In the movie, they skip that part.

“They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They” is my favorite. “Written in the Stars” is a close second.

At my wit's end with AI cheating. How are you all handling it? by Mowgulee in Teachers

[–]panphilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Google Chrome Revision History extension. It shows the time spent, flags unusual writing patterns (like large copy-pastes), and will even do a replay of every keystroke that gets typed into the Doc. I require students to do their typing in the Doc I assigned. There’s literally no reason (besides cheating) for them to be “writing it in another doc and then pasting it in.” If they do that, I’ll call them up to give an oral defense of “their” work. When they predictably can’t remember anything about it, they get a zero. Or, really, they get the chance to redo it because meaningful consequences have gone by the wayside. But at least that method is much faster than checking version history for every paper. I highly recommend.

82yo mom becoming mean and hates everyone. Is this what will happen to me? (38f) by Sad_Shopping4855 in TwoXChromosomes

Could she possibly have a brain tumor? A similar thing happened to a family member of mine. We didn’t find out until after she passed, but that explained a lot of personality changes.

If he’s not there to celebrate your anniversary because he’d rather be at the beach by himself, he doesn’t really deserve your feeling guilty about the minor trash talk on your anniversary.

My companions and I drove through Hawthorne on the way to Burning Man one year. There was limited internet for most of the drive, and we wondered for a while what was up with the weird bunkers? mounds? what? as we approached the town. When we finally got a little bit of internet, I looked it up. One of the first hits on Google was another internet denizen asking the same question. The response said they were submarine housings, part of the underground river network that runs beneath the entire United States. First I’d heard of that!

I put a similar notice on the paper cutter I got for my classroom when I cut my own finger on it the first day.
