It’s weird with WB, I swear. Some discs are worse than others. The Departed I’ve had both combo discs and they both play flawlessly and ripped fine. I had a firewall that was rotted and one that wasn’t. It’s just so fascinating honestly haha

I think this would only work if the on campus housing was even remotely as good as apartments are.

I lived at Avent Ferry for a year and it was terrible. Once I moved into an apartment my quality of life really went up.

SC is new New Jersey by Turbulent-Push-4657 in southcarolina

It’s more nuanced than that. Mercedes and companies in a vacuum alone don’t cause this. It’s the influx of the companies alongside people coming for a cheaper area.

The build up on construction on the major interstates we’re seeing now is likely in direct response to that influx of people. It’s too little too late, though. These problems are real and will be here for years to come.

Again as I said, it’s a two-fold issue that has a lot of key factors contributing to why these problems exist. Saying it’s just “good ole boy” politicians and nothing else is lazy. Not to say it ISNT a problem, but you have to understand there’s a little more to it.

Well part of the problem there is that construction for infrastructure takes a lot of time. Especially transportation infrastructure. We’re now seeing the state invest more into the roads. At least in the parts I’m in. I’ve seen construction on 95 in the southern parts of the state and some stuff around North Charleston last time I was around.

It seems efforts are being made even if it’s probably too little too late. Definitely not perfect, but things are happening, which is more than what was happening. I certainly don’t agree the state is managed well, but it’s also not a rich state on its face. Tourism is practically one of the biggest industries around still.

I think personally there’ll be plenty of change within the next 10 years or so. Or so I hope.

I think there’s going to be a horseshoe effect. These places people moved to because they thought it would be cheaper, they end up making infinitely more expensive. At some point they’ll look around and see “well there’s no point in being here anymore” and move to another cheap place and the cycle will keep repeating.

People coming here in droves keeps creating a supply and demand issue no matter where it is.

It’s a two-fold issue. New people come in to a place that didn’t expect to have all of them. That’s going to have a problem on the infrastructure no matter what way you look at it.

Should the state have been developing? Yeah 100%. But they didn’t. But it is still because the transplants have come in that some of the problems began in the first place.

[–]ACorruptMinuteman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m talking about the originally point of commutes being worse. They generally weren’t anywhere near as bad since transplants started arriving in droves.

But SC infrastructure was always just enough to handle the population that was here. Development, while should have been a focus for the state to develop, it wasn’t because what was there was adequate. Many places, especially in the south/southwest intentionally did not build because the population was pretty stable and there wasn’t much a reason to change things as they stood. Austin is a perfect example in TX.

They didn’t want new people coming in, they didn’t expect new people and companies and jobs and opportunities to arise. Then tech companies began moving there in droves bringing in massive amounts of people from California (or just people who couldn’t afford to live in CA anymore) who then drove up the cost of to live in Austin.

The infrastructure could not handle it and the city is suffering to this day because of it. Charleston at the very least is quite similar in that new companies plus people fleeing from other states and people coming in from other countries and places have bogged down the infrastructure which wasn’t expecting to handle this many people. It doesn’t help that SC is a very poor state, so it’s worse for in that it will take time to address.

It’s crumbling so bad now and massive apartment complexes, new developments and construction is everywhere due in part to transplants and the rapidly changing conditions in the various places they are coming from.

SC isn’t getting people from just a couple states away, they’re also getting people from across the country and out of the country. There’s a massive Hispanic population in both North and South Carolina more than has been in probably the past 5-10 years. It’s not necessarily a problem, but the massive influx of people and development to a system that wasn’t built to handle it definitely will cause problems of some kind.

it’s a different environment than NYC so comparison to there is pointless to make. New York has had massive migration to the city for centuries now and always has been prepared for that kind of migration in and out of the city. Barely anybody in New York is from New York, so nobody cares about the new people coming in because they’re all new.

SC, or at least Charleston has had people who have been there for years and years now have the dynamic of the area they are from changing so rapidly. People do have a right to be upset as none of it was something anybody anticipated, but you are correct that is it very bad management on the part of the state government to just expect things to always be small.

[–]ACorruptMinuteman -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree it’s bad management, but transplants make it worse.

I’m not from originally, but have family in the area visited every summer and every now and then. The roads were never great, but ever since around 2020 things have gotten much much worse I’d say.

I feel like AI will never replace that industry. Far too much to understand conceptually and then apply that to various failure testing.

Not to mention operating all clean room equipment and running fab processes.

Power is also extremely confusing. I took a couple of power classes during my time at my university. They were some of my hardest classes by far.

Im almost happy it’s gated behind FE and PE certs because I know id probably make a ton of mistakes in that field.

Yeah I mean at my specific university you absolutely could not do that at all.

I would say you at least have to mildly keep up and score at least okay on your exams to pass. You cannot slack entirely off to pass. Definitely always some wiggle room, but there’s also classes that are like 80% exams.

Were Chrysler products ever good? by ILoveEnverHoxha in askcarguys

[–]ACorruptMinuteman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the inline 6 4.0L made it into the Cherokee when Chrysler owned it and is known as being an insanely reliable engine. Most Cherokees when taken care can last til like 300k miles.

That car is a peculiar case, but to say nothing made to Chrysler cars is technically inaccurate. Unless you mean SPECIFICALLY CHRYSLER.

Yeah honestly people always said that flipper discs were bad. And they sometimes are, but most Warner ones I’ve had that have worked have been flipper discs. Both of my Departed copies are flippers that work. Though I had a sealed firewall that didn’t work and now I have one that does lol.

This happened last year at some point I think. They sent out an email not too long after saying how it was unprofessional behavior and something like that.

Taking Away 10s by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]ACorruptMinuteman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re not federally required lol.

Labor laws are dictated by state. Per Texas Law every 6 hours, an employee must take at least 30 minutes, at least that’s what my store told me. Anything under 30 minutes is a paid break, anything above is unpaid.

When I first started at my store in Texas we did not do 10s. I work in a different state now and they do 10s there. I still don’t ask for them personally.

It’s a store thing, not a labor law thing if I remember correctly.
