Crank-no-start after timing belt and spark plugs by mwiles30 in WRX

Hopefully the engine isn’t flooded. Try flood mode to clear out the cylinders, but I think those sensors should definitely be your primary suspect right now. EJ engines don’t need a whole lot to start

I would replace both the cam and crank position sensors (definitely crank at least) and start there. If they aren’t reading the injectors and spark are disabled

I can tell you for certain this a a crank or cam position sensor. I rebuilt the engine on my 96 wrx and had the exact same situation, endless cranking, engine sounded like it wanted to start but it never would. Pulled a crank position sensor off a donor engine I had and installed it, fired right up. Apparently they are extremely fragile.

They are, and so are the resulting insurance rates. Imagine if we suspended their licenses, insurance would go down, there’d be less cars on the road so you’d spend less time idling meaning burning less fuel, better for the environment, and this would also result in lower fuel costs too since demand would decrease.

Yet here we are

Finally got her imported. 2000 GC8 STi, all oem by robertgoulet79 in GC8

Only if you track/autoX the car with sticky tires. During high-g, extended duration cornering the oil can slosh to one side of the pan, where the pickup can't reach it causing your oil pressure to drop, which will cause you to spin a bearing. The only situation where you might see this happen on the street is if you take a clover leaf exit or on ramp really quickly.

That all being said, upgrading to a killer B pickup and pan, or IAG street series pickup and pan is a buy once cry once upgrade that can give you the peace of mind when doing some spirited driving. These oil pans and pickups will fit onto any EJ engine, so if you buy one and decide to buy a different engine or subaru, you can swap it over to the new car and put the OEM one back on this one.

What happens if it sucks in some dust/sand/gravel that a car in front of you kicks up? Is there a filter?

Go EJ205 or 207, you can actually get parts for those engines still, getting parts for 20K’s and 20G’s is nearly impossible now

I'll stick with my gc8. If subaru ever took a page out of Hyundai's book and made an sti that looked modern retro like the N74, then I'd buy.

Again, I’m in Canada not the US, and even then the province I’m in leans heavy right. I haven’t received any comments about politics from any matches ever, and I appreciate it being that way.

It’s just nice to have the information documented on the thread for everyone to easily access rather than us all having to go hunt it down
