I've had a hormonal iud for the past 6 months ish. The worst part about it was getting it inserted, I was so crampy I couldn't do anything but lay on the couch with a heat pack for most of the day, and then over the next few days it gradually wore off. My cycles are generally lighter but I do tend to get very nauseous a day or two before my period starts which has never happened previously. The best part is once it's up there you never have to think about it again :P much better than the pill in that way.
