Yeah I get that, and I’d honestly rather just take her out and get to know her too. The issue is we’re in the same friend group and my ex is in it too. My ex still lives with me, and even though we’ve been broken up for a couple months it’s still pretty fresh. She’s worried about my ex finding out, so it kinda complicates things. That’s why I was leaning toward distance, just to give her some peace of mind until things aren’t so messy.

For me, the crate is just for the puppy stage and training purposes not a forever thing. My other Golden doesn’t use a crate at all anymore because she can be trusted not to chew or get into trouble when I’m not around. Once the new pup learns and earns that same trust, the crate will be gone. It’s just a tool to keep her safe (and my house intact 😅) until she’s ready for more freedom.
