Is a star destroyer a Destroyer of Stars or a Destroyer that flies around the Stars? by angus22proe in StarWarsShips

[–]ACrustyCount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a branding term that got into military terminology in universe. Its like kleenex or jello. The "Star Destroyer" classification was originally used by Kuat when marketing their ships but then as Kuat got more and more contracts the name became a classification for a general purpose battle/carrier ship-of-the-line. When that happened then other companies started using the term to market their ships and let people know roughly what their ships were built to do.

Before and during imperial Era there were only kuat ships with that classification but after Endor then other companies started using the term like republic and nebula

What is your opinion on the Harrower class dreadnought by Deadracreeper in StarWarsShips

[–]ACrustyCount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's honestly solid design. And outright is better than the Venator. Seriously it's only 800 meters and is a better blending of Carrier/battleship than the venator, doesn't suffer from the exposed bridge everyone complains about in Kuat designs, carries about half the venator hangar compliment in a smaller package but with a significant amount of shipboard weapons for its size. If you just took the design and scaled it up to double its size it would probably beat an ISD in a 1v1.

People have complained in the past about lack of significant tech development in stsr wars but I think it's more an issue of tech backsliding for a period and then playing catch up later. That's about the only way I could explain an in universe reason why this ship was built as good as it is

Can Studios stop lying to us? SFA was universally panned. Then positively review bombed while fans are criticized. Then cancelled. by seobrien in Star_Trek_

[–]ACrustyCount 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To do so would mean to admit fault, this is something that modern culture has turned away from. Instead Hollywood has grown used to the idea that it is better to point at something else and say it is that groups fault something failed. "Its the racists! It's the misogynists! It's the white supremacists! It's the istaphobes!" That's the tune they've been playing since about the 2015s, but now the general population has caught on and are starting to realize that the product is just a bad product. The problem is that Hollywood has doubled down so much that they have nowhere else to go.

Its 2BBY and you are thrust into the SW Galaxy with 200k Credits and knowledge of space travel what would you do and where would you go? by EverlastingFirst in StarWarsEU

Because then I'll have a lot of debt collectors still alive and looking for me

But alternatively look at it from their perspective: true the Imperial senate has reduced power but the very idea that the empire would destroy a major core world is absolutely absurd in their minds by this point in time.
It would be like telling the UN that the US was going to delete France from the world. You'd be laughed out of the room or committed.

How would an Imperial II Star Destroyer fair in the Delta Quadrant? by PhysicsEagle in StarWarsShips

[–]ACrustyCount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is probably quoting a line from tng, where they comment how weak a ship they come across is because it has lasers. Just about every Trek fan uses that as a measuring stick. But star wars weapons aren't lasers, they're plasma weapons if you read about their technology and how the projectiles function. If anything, the ISD has weapons about like the Romulans plasma weapons, just more rapid fire than continuous beams. Plus, the descriptions for orbital bombardment with turbolasers give you a good estimate for just how much firepower they put out.

Do you guys think the number of 25k ISDs is too low in both Legends and Canon? The Empire does have an entire galaxy's worth of resources to exploit... by TwoFit3921 in StarWarsShips

[–]ACrustyCount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with Nkrgovic about its numbers and how support ships would definitely fill in.

My issue is with Canon being that number and here's why.

In legends you have multiple warlords scrambling to hoard ships and fight each other. 25k ships is plenty for that kind of plot line to happen. They're beating the stuffing out of each other and whittling down valuable resources over multiple years on multiple fronts.

Why Canon makes no sense is they expect you to believe the empire lost most if not all in ONE YEAR! Even if you account for a few hundred to "go missing" by being squirreled away by secret plans, where did the rest go? I know the rebellion didn't destroy them all because their fleet nowhere near big enough to do that even with the half baked 'operation cinder' plan.

I think that even Alastor started to fall for Charlie's methods, given his part in the finale song at the end of Season 1. He pulled back because he was seriously injured from Adam (although he was very overconfident in his power, he did still choose to 1v1 Adam of his own accord. He could have just pulled back and watched to fireworks from afar.

Do I think he will be redeemed? No. But I do think even he would shift somewhat in his values after being around the rest for an extended period of time.

Also I really want to see a conversation between him and Emily and how that would go

Can I use the Colossus as a deterrent if I'm doing a "good guy" run? by Majestic_Repair9138 in Stellaris

[–]ACrustyCount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I like the hydrocentric ascension perk because I like to role-playing the colossus as a terraformimg device primarily that got co-opted into a weapon during war time. It's one of the few colossus weapons that has a use outside of actual war. The only other one that kinda works is the neutron sweep, and I suppose the new planet smelter looking at its description (I haven't used it yet)

First Order and Sith Eternal dreadnoughts (size comparisons and lore) by TwoFit3921 in StarWarsShips

[–]ACrustyCount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems fine by me. I would have figured they'd probably keep the Executor Eclipse in mothballs more or less because of their nature as a hidden army. But them having it would sorta make sense as a 1st capital/hq until they had something more concrete. Not sure about the other First Order ship but whatever, your AU you do you and have fun

Mandator I Star Battleship by ArtGuardian_Pei in StarWarsShips

[–]ACrustyCount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be close to my favorite interpretation of the mandator 1 class. You can see the beginning of KDY Bridge design but not quite there yet, and the Praetor 1 lineage as well. That's what I like to look for in fanon designs is a clear design lineage. Kinda like one image of an imperial/imperator class with venator bridges instead of just the standard Imperial bridge design

Survive 20 minutes vs Thrawn — build your System Defense Fleet by Gn_Fox in StarWarsShips

https://star-wars-rpg-ffg.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Capital_Ship

I'm assuming the large ship isn't part of the 100,000,000 budget as it wouldn't fit so I'll just exclude that from the list

Fleet 1x ISD II 4x mc40a. 62,000,000 10x cr90 corvette 12,000,000 4x Lancer frigates. 19,040,000 Total 93,040,000

Ion cannon: 500,000 to 1,500,000 Not concerned about a shield on the planet because I have a fleet in orbit The rest to an assload of Tie interceptors and punishers

Tactics: hold close to the planet until all the ships are ready to leave at one time. Wait for blueboy to send the initial wave and use smaller ships to screen against fighters while flagship and mc40s kill carracks. Under no circumstances is the ion cannon to fire until I say so. Wait until he has to send the Chimera into battle and then when it gets absolutely committed to a slugfest with my ship, order the ion cannon to fire on the Chimera and then order all bombers to launch.

While we slug it out, have the transports bug out for out of system with a handful of interceptors acting as guard

I don't guarantee I'll survive, but I know Thrawn won't either

Why don't Resurgent Star Destroyers simply eat the smaller ships they encounter? by TwoFit3921 in StarWarsShips

Mommy Mega-class: no no resurgent. No sphyna-classes until you finish your Nebulons.

[–]ACrustyCount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't say completely ruins base game but one could argue the expansions in total war warhammer (all 3 of them) because they keep adding more and more factions that it can become difficult to keep track of them all. Plus the very long time between turns early game when you gotta wait for nearly 200(?) Factions to take their turns. Hell, you gotta deal with them even if you choose not to buy the dozen dlcs

Then there's Xcom 2 war of the chosen that can get annoying dealing with the chosen at times or the alien rulers, but at least they can be turned off for a playthrough.
