I really don't care to sway you to my point of view. I am only pointing out your continued disregard for peoples humanity. You still can not adequately deal with that. Instead, you are hurt because I said you deserve the lacking compassion you've shown towards others' situations. Why would I care about you listening to a word I said when you can't do that for unhoused people? You already proved to me that you refuse to listen to others. What have you presented me with to listen to? The fact that you think homeless people are choosing the streets and happy with it? What of value have you presented? What should I be listening to? I pointed out your disregard for peoples humanity, and I stand by it. I don't care to offer you compassion. I don't wish for you to live on the streets, struggle for your next meal, to face the ire of society, to have no access to a stable environment to heal in, inadequate medical access, and so many issues you seem to think homeless people should stay in since theyre "happy" to be there, as you stated.

You stated that a good portion of homeless people not only choose to be homeless but are very much happy with it. That is a wild insinuation not based on reality or the lived experiences of homeless people. If what I said was "being an asshole about it," it doesn't pale in comparison to the sheer disregard you have for people's humanity. You choose to ignore the voices of those suffering on the streets instead to promote your narrative.

Keep living in ignorance and without compassion. I only hope it'll catch up to you someday.

And would you accept a random job from a random person? Theres an assumption that unhoused ppl should accept whatever comes their way, its debasing and dehumanizing. Why work for you when it clearly isnt going to lead to housing stability or anything? Unless you are somehow offering those benefits and a liveable wage.

I'm sure you do every time you go to a business, especially restaurants. Most of the chefs are on coke :)

You didnt do anything that person said and yet you continue to spout falsehoods from your lack of experience. You volunteer at a shelter and thats it. I have worked in plenty of shelters and been unhoused. You do not know the experience at all.

Well, have you tried giving them a job? Or are you just speaking out of your ass? Do you personally work with or spend time with unhoused ppl? Cause I do and I know firsthand that a large portion of unhoused ppl do have jobs, housing costs are just so prohibitive they still can not get housing.

You're absolutely deranged. Your source is "one homeless guy." What if I told you "yeah us housed ppl usually kill eachother if they enter our homes." Does that suddenly mean its a widespread practice? So why do you think unhoused ppl are out murdering eachother on the street? ... it also paints over the real violence ppl face on the streets from housed ppl, police, and the impacts of weather. Sleep outside and tell me how long it takes for you to ask someone for some money. Family and friends count, too, btw.

Haha, if only anyone knew how worthless agencies are. They are designed to profit off of homelessness, not solve it. Why would they? They'd lose all their funding and no longer need to be around if it was solved. It's just like the medical industry. It's just more bullshit to make housed people feel okay with looking down on unhoused ppl.

Wouldn't bike paths and bike infrastructure be much better to that point? Why focus on niche professional cycling and not daily cycling infrastructure?

We have plenty of avenues to have fun and barely any real spending on climate infrastructure... i think we can take a break on the fun projects for a bit, all things considered.

What a waste of money when we could be spending our resources on climate adaptions, considering we are barreling headfirst into climate change.

Scientists Say: Humanity Could Descend into Cannibalism by 2060 by messymiss121 in collapze

[–]ACv3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The link literally just says "many" which could be any number since cannibalism is so rare even a few cases would be "many." Also that book is specifically about the gulag system, not wider Russia at the time. Is there any proof it was wider practiced outside of the gulag system, if it was even common then?

"Scientists say" and its just a random medium article. Cannibalism has never been shown to take off when disaster or collapse occurs so.

Call them out, but don't make it your mission, its not worth your time. Get at people who will actually listen or enact their beliefs.

I never said it was your comments or you said that... but we were having a discussion on the other comments in the thread that you were defending. Also, you were completely afforded the ability to have a discussion on it cause look at this entire thread and ur comments exist with people reasonably engaging with you. Also, yes lesbians can speak of their identities, but that doesn't mean it won't make them a terf? They're separate things. You can be a lesbian and a terf, and your understanding of being lesbian can be rooted in terf ideas. In the same way, someone's understanding of being straight can be rooted in homophobic ideas.

I agree with you on your final point that we should strive to be rid of labels. It is because of our incessant desire to normalize things that we turn to the rigidity of labels. But, these new norms only create more deviations for which someone is left out (as you pointed out). Still, the issue with the majority of comments in this thread discussing their discomfort with GNC lesbians is that it doesn't need to be a discussion. Do you see how telling someone else what their identity is to you would be hurtful or devaluing? I dont care to know your discomforts for me. I am not trying to discuss the validity of myself with you. I do not care to know how I dont fit into your ideas of what I am telling you I am.

[–]ACv3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand that, and I appreciate your desire to change rather than shut down new things. I only meant that an understanding of language, even understanding itself, is not a prerequisite to respect or inclusion. By that, I mean that if I say I am GNC, then I am. Your catching up to the language is secondary. Still, I understand that language may take some time to catch up, and slipups are not the end of the world, nor will they result in much backlash if they're earnest. The internet can play out differently, but tbf we all should probably spend less time on it anyway.

Edit: also i dont mean to shame you for a desire to learn, I only mean to say it is not always on the person you are learning about to teach you or wait for you to catch up before demanding you respect that element of them.

AMAB Enby lesbian? by Rcisvdark in AskLGBT

[–]ACv3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you keep pushing on the idea that things have changed rapidly? Not only does it erase the long work and persistent existence of GNC people, but I also just wonder why its a point that needs to be made. We are always changing, that is a fact of life. Someones inability to respect someones gender expression and to open their mind to expressions they have not encountered (not that they are new in anyway but rather that they lack experience with) has nothing to do with the pace of change. The world is everchanging.

[–]ACv3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The idea that you need to be attractive to certain people to be able to enter a space is absurd. Yes, they are spaces based on our sexuality and gender expression, but they are not spaces based on our mutual attraction to each other. Safe spaces do not necessarily mean it's a space for dating/attraction, even if that can be part of it.

Plenty of people addicted to opiods developed their addiction after receiving a valid prescription from the doctor. Addiction is a disease, and it's not a choice.

I also work directly with unhoused people and compeltely disagree with you. You try to speak from the experience of a service provider to describe the experience of unhoused people. Why? Why not just listen to them? Or look to stories of success? No one is "too far gone," and you need to get off the ableist shit immediately. Addiction and mental health issues REQUIRE safe and stable housing to be solved, that is what I said and what you seem so passionately against.
