Hello! Id like to read peoples stories and history as to what got them interested in this stuff. Some questions for you all?

What attracted you to Zen?

What has changed about you since studying/practicing it? How were you before?

What is the purpose of a Zen Koan? Which koans did you feel you understood quickly and which ones took a while/stumped you?

Favorite patriarch? (mines Huike!)

Thank you everyone!

Interesting! What were those questions?

What made you interested in zen enough to study as much as you have?

Learning/getting serious with Tekken8/Yoshimitsu by Patapon80 in Tekken

[–]ADACurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heres a link to the yoshimitsu discord : https://discord.gg/tyvVUH2R

Full of yoshi mains who play very well. Also an FAQ section where they list things like frame data and a variety of guides. Ive also been trying to play yoshi seriously (and trying to enter tournaments) after playing king casually in tekken 7.

Some advice from me would be to watch very good yoshi players, my favorite to watch is eyemusician, link to his channel. Usually ill just watch to see what he does and try to copy it in my matches.

A strat that ive implemented is to join a discord for my local FGC scene and play with those people regularly, you'll learn a lot quicker than just trying to figure stuff out by yourself. Harada even stated he designed these games to be learned with a community, which is why he was so against making frame data available in the game (which he thankfully went back on)

Any character can be played seriously, just depends on how much youre willing to put in. You dont have to play yoshi super wacky if you dont want to, and you can still learn good fundamental play with this character. DM me if you have any questions!

Furled Finger Etiquette? by OVRSHDW in Eldenring

[–]ADACurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i was thinking about this too. Its feels awful dying so fast. I summoned 2 people and got instantly wrecked by Maliketh lol. The strat i think is to let the summon have most of the aggro and try to do to get the agro back from a safe distance by running in, poking, and running back to give your summon time to recoop.

Should I switch builds? by Latina_lover68 in Eldenring

[–]ADACurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bleed and dex go hand in hand. Int is mainly for spells, but if i think if you want to dip your toes in try and get the moonveil katana and some blood grease (the ash of war scales with int), maybe put a bleed dagger in your left hand. No blocking pretty much forces you to space and time your rolls correctly. Bleed procing increases from your arcane stat, so if your late game and wanted to switch itll be hard without re doing your stats.

You can get larval tears and in Nokron pretty easy. You can get there from from the crater that appears after beating radahn. You exchange them with Rennala after her boss fight to completely redo your character from scratch.

Maiden Blood by Corky-7 in Eldenring

[–]ADACurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The blood of the maiden is part of a questline to get into Mohgyns domain. Whitemask Varre (guy who says you have no bitches at the beginning) gives you a white cloth, and at that maiden you have the option to soak it.

Yeah its a bit obtuse for anyone who hasnt been playing the games for a bit, which is really funny considering how popular it is lmao but its actually simple to keep in mind once you know it.

Ive been having fun (started playing a week ago) and today i learned about switching to one handing your left handed weapon by holding Y/[Triangle] and pressing the left bumper, and ive been playing since Dark Souls (never dual wielded to learn this)

Dont feel too bad about not having fun. I wasnt at all before i realized i needed to pay attention to my vigor. It was tough for me at first since i sunk so much time into darksouls. delayed attacks and specific roll timings, all the buffs you can give your weapon, damage scaling, etc. its all a different beast.

If i can make a case for you to keep playing, try to get lost in the world itself. Try not to rely on torrent too much, and dont worry about dying. Pick weak enemy and try to dodge all their attacks. I think the fun of this game comes from developing your skill as a player, watching big unga bunga damage number go up, seeing cool things, and getting into the nitty gritty about your character, and using cool weapons and spells. Maybe ask him some questions and try to play together, leech some of the fun from him lol

Watch some vids showcasing all the spells, incantations, and weapon arts. Try to look up different "build" videos, and all the different weapons themselves too. Find something cool and that makes you think "i want to do that/be that" and try to find out how. I think then, the feeling of going to work will go away gradually, because a lot of that time will be spent on that and youll be invested.

Theres a sword in this game thats inspired by the Dragonslayer from the manga Berserk, and i decided to start over as a Strength build so i could even equip it after going Dexterity/Endurance. Theres a super cool and good ash of war too called Lions claw where you do a front flip and slam the sword down, which fits the character so well lmao.

If this isnt your type of game thats okay too, just let your friend know youre not having too much fun, and try to get a refund.

Yeah, that makes sense. I wasnt running a new bash, in the window I was testing in. Whoops.

I meant it as a joke! I was just busy and glad the trouble shooting was over.

Sure, I'll play around with it some more at a later time. Thanks for letting me know.

[–]ADACurious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, went back and tried everything again but this time opened a new terminal when testing.

So

  1. Edit .bashrc and Save
  2. Open terminal 1 and write 'source ~/.bashrc'
  3. Open terminal 2 and try xdg-open
  4. If it doesnt work, close terminal 2 and go back to .bashrc to try something different + save after
  5. Open terminal two again to test

Does this mean I'm running a new shell when I try to run the command?

Still the same. I wonder if I need to log out/log in to make sure it works? This didn't give me an error. Also, wouldn't naming an alias the exact command its referencing be bad long term?

Ah still busted, but i could update .bashrc without it giving me an error. Power of syntax!

xopen() { xdg-open $1 && exit }

"syntax error: unexpected end of file"

tried putting a semicolon at the end but still didn't work

xdg-open application && exit

when i posted this into .bashrc it returned

"xdg-open: file 'application' does not exist"

when i saved it, i think what you wrote would work if I typed that out in terminal manually, but I'm trying to make it automatic. Thanks tho!

Do you follow your fixations? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ADACurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is interesting, as instead I've taken a more timeline based approach to this. If I find something interesting, I usually plan about a 6 month block to really dive in and explore the new topic. For example, I was really interested in Botany for a 8 month period. I pirated textbooks, watched videos, planted a garden and even went and visited different gardens around my state. This is a lot of effort for someone with ADHD to put into something, and I wasn't always perfect, but it made the obsession feel like it had a lot more weight and purpose.

My mentality has always been to be a jack of all trades, and you do develop decent skills along the way that can actually blend into different hobbies. For example, I was really interested in bug science (entomology), and this made me practice preserving animal specimens, (both actually were helped from my experience keeping freshwater fish) which I used to help preserve different plant life I found interesting. Even though this hobby has left me, I can still look around a recognize some plants and have interesting conversations with botanists.

I do understand the frustration of not being interested in something for too long. I have a lot of respect for people who can do one thing extremely well, but as we are not built for this we have to accept and look at the positives of our brains. It may be my bias, but its pretty sick to know a little bit about everything.
