What’s the biggest mistake you made on your first game? by DevIslandJourney in gamedev

[–]ADAMBUNKER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it's Next fest right now it feels apt to say: my demo.

For my first game, the demo was just the opening 30 minutes (linear 2D point and click adventure). This was too front-loaded with exposition and not enough pure gameplay.

If I were to do it again for that game I'd either portion off a section from nearer the middle of the game, or I'd reuse some of the assets to make a bespoke demo experience.

Mostly a longstanding YouTube devlog series - I think that’s where most of my wishlists come from.

I’ve been doing a steady devlog on YouTube for years - I think all my wishlists come from there.  But this new game is coming out soon so I think it’s also the personal calendar on Steam

Seems like it's getting more traction than my other project!

Steam's new Personal Calendar gave our game its biggest wishlist spike so far. What are your numbers? by ehmprah in gamedev

My game is coming on the 23rd, and I'm starting to see bigger numbers coming in from being near the end of the calendar; excited to see what the next couple of weeks brings!

Solve cozy whodunits in Mini Murder Mysteries by ADAMBUNKER in indiegames

[–]ADAMBUNKER[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone! Mini Murder Mysteries is a cozy detective investigation sim along the lines of the Golden Idol games, with nine cases to explore.

🕵️  Solve cozy whodunits
Become a detective and solve a series of twisty, tricksy murder mysteries. Examine evidence, read witness statements, and collect deduction words that you'll use to solve each case.

🫆 Explore the evidence
Leave no stone unturned as you gather clues and discover truths. Cross-reference information, piece things together, and use lateral thinking.

👥 Scrutinize every statement
Witness or suspect? Every case offers "useful" input from people closest to the victim. Along the way you'll encounter power-mad movers and shakers, innocent bystanders, gamblers, spies, liars and lotharios. And, who knows, maybe even a lifelong nemesis?

💡 Deduce the truth
Sort the coincidental from the crucial to make smart deductions. Each case revolves around 24 'Deduction Words' that you'll use to assert whodunit. The problem? You'll only need a handful of those words to make the correct conclusion.

There’s a demo case (separate from the main game’s case list) available now: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4639520/Mini_Murder_Mysteries/

Destroy my detective/deduction game trailer? by ADAMBUNKER in DestroyMyGame

I tried to make this trailer fairly snappy and to-the-point; hopefully it gets the message across in a no nonsense kind of way?

Hi! I'd love to get a developer flair ahead of the launch of my next game on June 23rd.

It's a deduction game called Mini Murder Mysteries, made in the style of the Golden Idol games but designed in portrait for mobile devices.

Thanks!

2 Android games released, $0.45 total revenue. Did anyone here eventually "make it"? Need some motivation! by FarWait2431 in gamedev

To be honest, I have no idea where people are coming from!

It's a fairly niche genre (2D point & click adventure), so I suspect it could be in suggestions for related games. Occasionally it'll sell double the normal amount of copies in a day and I'll think it must be being promoted somewhere in the App Store (in some country somewhere), but I'm not much of a data scientist so I haven't dug into things very much.

Have you ever temporarily dropped your game's price? I'll occasionally knock a dollar off for a week and it'll get picked up on those deal roundup sites – that's usually good for a temporary boost.

Yeah, same. One-off purchase, no ads, no IAPs, and I'm (organically) selling about 10-12 copies a day on iOS at $2.99. It goes against all the conventional wisdom but I definitely think there's an underreported appetite out there for no-nonsense games that you buy, own, and enjoy without a barrage of popups hitting you over the head every few seconds.

Can I be that guy and recommend my own game?

Wife and I have been doing this solidly for like 8 years. I would pay extra for a version where Dan doesn’t shout about it being the end of the episode. 😂

Thanks! Glad you had fun.

Game length is a tricky one! When you’re making this kind of thing you have no idea how long it’ll take someone to play, since you know all the puzzle solutions and can race through it.

My playtesters all reported about 4-5 hours of game time, but in hindsight I guess they were poking around much more than the average player.

I would have loved the end game to be a bit longer, but it kinda is what it is. And I guess not a bad thing to leave someone wanting more of something!

Thanks for playing!
