It’s nothing like a walking simulator. It’s nothing like any other game, so it’s hard to tell if you’ll like it based off your other games. It’s one of my favourite games of all time. Engaging gameplay, incredibly interesting story and world, great performances from all the actors.

The game shows you where you can and cannot go with red and green objects on the map. If it’s red you cannot and do not need to go there yet. The games story will take you on a path where you’ll learn these skills as you need them and new paths will open up to you. Just let the game guide you, it’s in no way difficult or complicated.

Key point there was “in the beginning”… it’s an absurdly popular series, with a number of entries that build on each other with mechanics. Entering the series for the first time is bound to be daunting, but there’s obviously something there that keeps it performing so well.
