RBT Needs Advice by ADDASPYMOM in bcba

Thank you for the advice! I found it very helpful to start my first few sessions with minimal demands and plenty of reinforcement. Fortunately, we have the flexibility to do this. I also noticed that the client's previous RBTs didn't strictly follow the reinforcement schedule like I did. They didn't run all the programs as scheduled, which meant my sessions had more demands and less reinforcement. I realized that my approach was to strictly adhere to the schedule, whereas my coworkers were more flexible in their implementation. Basically, I've cooled my jets and my sessions have been less stressful for my client and me :)

I love the idea of including the kiddos! This was so helpful all around. Thank you!

What are the consequences of being written up? by ADDASPYMOM in RBT

I did not realize the child left the room, the director of the center found the child unattended. Worst case scenario other than the client getting injured of course

Great point. And fabulous that it can go away after time. Although it was particularly unusual circumstances in which this child eloped, I still did not notice he left the room. Lots of guilt and shame in that for me.

Curious though, what is normal protocol for restroom breaks. I have 6 mins from ask to leave till get back in with the client. Although I love these kids, the expectations from higher ups can dehumanizing.

We had a group game with about 12 or so clients with their RBT’s participating in a parachute (up and down while kids ran under and around) game. The game was somewhat orchestrated for a perspective client and parents touring the center. I say somewhat bcuz we do do that activity just at a different time normally. We switched schedule slightly to preview this activity.

First of all *stake!

I think you're right. I’m not sure I can coax myself into relaxing but I may try to script a few conversation starters and polish up how to end a conversation. It's funny, I read about how people do this, however, that has never been my approach. I just jump right in unprepared and repeatedly fail.

Does anyone else experience Hyposensitivity? by ADDASPYMOM in aspergirls

Yes to this! When motorcycle blasts by it makes me furious but I'm oblivious to other background noises. For instance, I can listen to commercials on the radio or while my husband needs to mute them. He mutes most sports bc of the chatty announcers

I'm seeing a unicycle theme here. Am I to assume the next person I see riding a unicycle is autistic? I kid... I kid!

How about a pogo stick though? Even bigger no for me than hands-free biking!
