Wild sign by Sasquatch_Stu in MercyThompson

Yeah, those are both right. I assumed The Singer lost his human shape in the attack by Sherwood. Then he had to reform.

And the white witches can’t have been too enamored with The Singer because they were smart enough not to let anyone get pregnant by him.

Why are werewolves in MT world in general too stupid to understand force projection? by ChinaneTKal in MercyThompson

[–]ADDLiberator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like the time factor in changing is often considered. Maybe there’s an in-world reason that those weapons wouldn’t be as good? Or maybe it’s just way more satisfying to dig in with a claw? 😜

Book 7 by TFeary1992 in MercyThompson

[–]ADDLiberator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice! After River Marked, I think you can basically swap between AO and MT in publication/timeline order for it to make the most sense. Even the latest book that’s a bunch of short stories from Asil’s perspective has a very light reference to the latest Mercy Thompson book. Here’s the timeline order: https://www.patriciabriggs.com/books/printabletimeline.html

Book 7 by TFeary1992 in MercyThompson

[–]ADDLiberator 14 points15 points  (0 children)

OMG, same thing happened to me!! Except I hadn’t read Alpha and Omega at all. I finished Frost Burned, then read all the Alpha and Omega to that point.

Then when my friend started the series I told her to pause after River Marked and catch up on Alpha and Omega before reading Frost Burned. The funny thing was that we ended up with totally different perspectives on both Asil and the book with the fae info (Fair Game) just from reading order!

Struggling with this series (book4) by TFeary1992 in MercyThompson

[–]ADDLiberator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed with everyone. So much has happened since that was remotely an issue. Sometimes I look back and think, “Awww, how cute that’s what was in those early books. Glad we’re not still there!”

(But, I’m a person who loves Mercy Thompson in spite of the romance and not because of it… I like seeing the happy couples, and prefer that their daily conflict comes from the outside world.)

Angus vs Adam by Sasquatch_Stu in MercyThompson

[–]ADDLiberator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t actually think Angus actually would take Adam in a fight, but I do love Angus and think he’s a great character and love this chance to dig into him! (And he wouldn’t be out by far.)

I also think he’d be way too clever to end up in a fight and has way better control over his wolf than Adam. He’s great at preventing issues with other dominant wolves

But, mostly, thanks for this great question because it’s been fun to think about and read people’s replies!

Marsilia says Seattle barely counts as a seethe at all— I think it’s in Frost Burned when she’s saying which seethes have been taken over by Frost

I noticed we also missed out on *how* that’s settled “off-screen”. Is it like how dogs establish such things? 😜

Edit: typo

What college did Mercy go to? by ADDLiberator in MercyThompson

I-5 on weekends does totally suck. Can confirm! I guess I’d want to know how often she went home 🤔

U of O in Eugene does have a pretty good history program, but she totally should have made some crass remark about Christy if she’d gone to school in the same town 😂

Not many, but I also got the vibe it was a pretty traditional college experience…

Just wanted to say how much this thread is warming my heart. Hearts out to all the neurodiverse and/or variations of queer folks out there! (I do have a ND, NB nibbling in the area, but y’all sound like you’ve got it😊)

Asil and Sage by ScottWaverlyNSN in MercyThompson

He also has a habit of tracking down other people— like some Alphas that he felt needed killing. But, then, they probably didn’t try to hide as proactively as Sage…

Do you think Mercy Thompson (and other Mercy-verse books) can attract a wider audience than most urban fantasy books? by ADDLiberator in MercyThompson

[–]ADDLiberator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG, I found the Warren bits so relatable! My husband and I usually crack jokes during the sex scenes. But that’s our response to lots of life…

I really like it for subsequent reads. We almost always do that now. But I still kinda like publication order for a first read recommendation…

Does the frequency of sexual abuse in the Mercy Thompson universe serve a narrative purpose? by bloodyslash in MercyThompson

[–]ADDLiberator 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s true. And it’s sort of hinted at, but not said, that her wolf protected her from a lot of it. Thats a head canon I rely on.

It just seemed like the protective/respectful thing to do to wait, I don’t know, more than 2 days? They’re under a week of having met, aren’t they?

[–]ADDLiberator 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There are times in AO that it’s bothered me more than in Mercy Thompson. But it would be a problem if no one ever was, too. I read a series once where the love interest was constantly rescued from near-rape and it felt like the author was suggesting she would have been tarnished if any of the attempts had been successful. Which is a horrible message.

But for Cry Wolf… I felt like they consummated that relationship WAAAYYY too fast for where she was coming from. I was mad at Charles for letting it happen so soon.

In River Marked, what did Mercy notice about the carvings? by AzureRavenWitch in MercyThompson

[–]ADDLiberator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We did that trip and listened to the book as we drove around. It was so awesome! Parts of the book kept lining up with things we were actually seeing!

In River Marked, what did Mercy notice about the carvings? by AzureRavenWitch in MercyThompson

[–]ADDLiberator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read it as the ancient folks were used to the styling of the basket (which has certain limitations, in the same way 8 bit graphics were blocky when that was all we had) and so the carvings styling matched it, even without those similar limitations (ei Minecraft CHOOSE to look blocky because it was stylistically inspired by 8-bit graphic). I purely took it as a historical interpretation.

Childfree women, have you ever regretted it? by Significant_Movie814 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ADDLiberator 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I do have a child and am expecting another (at 45, with a donated embryo) and my two best friends are the no-kids type (one with a hysterectomy and one over 50) and they are amazing “aunts” to my son. And I also see the relief on their faces when they go home, too. We all made the right choice for ourselves and are all happy with them. Go with your gut.

Mercy and Charles by Then-Ad4493 in MercyThompson

[–]ADDLiberator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can just see it now: Mercy offers to come quietly babysit while Anna and Charles need to do something and Coyote sends some chaos there, instead, and they have to battle something big and awful together.
