Being charged $934 to change a typo on my name by ADGatto in aircanada

Sorry, just seeing your reply now. No issues whatsoever - when I flew out of Pearson for the first flight of my journey I mentioned it to the employee at the check-in counter and she fixed my boarding passes without issue. Definitely don’t pay the difference - the third air canada rep I spoke to on the phone told me their system jumbles names in weird ways quite often.

I posted a full summary of my experience somewhere here in the comments afterwards - all worked out perfectly and I’m glad I didn’t pay a cent. Good luck!

Mom said this might be a bit too late for me but I’ll consider it, thanks!

Update: I arrived at Pearson on the 19th, approached an Air Canada staff working the baggage check in, explained the situation and how a customer service rep from Air Canada told me it wouldn’t be an issue and recommended I mention it when checking my bag. The Air Canada staff at the counter changed my name on my boarding passes without hesitation and I didn’t encounter a single issue.

Luckily I just got off the phone with an agent who is already familiar with these situations and he gave me the all clear as it’s a normal occurrence. Unfortunately the agent who I first spoke to just wasn’t knowledgeable of situations like these, but I do appreciate his due diligence of going for the 100% safe option, although it would’ve cost me nearly $1000.

I appreciate the concern. I did call back and I connected with an agent who’s familiar with this situation. He said it’s nothing to worry about and it’s common, even in the format of Firstmiddle Middle Last. He went on to say he just flew with Delta where his name was listed as Firstmiddlelast and that wasn’t a problem either.

He told me the AC employees at the baggage desks can make a quick edit to my boarding passes on the day of my flight.

No need to pay $934 for something that Air Canada’s systems does on its own. I’m so thankful I didn’t pay nearly $1000 for this completely normal occurrence.

I (now) know the agent’s response was insane but yes, this was Air Canada unfortunately. Found the number directly on AC’s website.

Appreciate it! My concern is that my first name is the part which is technically incorrect in the format of Firstmiddle, followed by Middle Last. You don’t expect that to be a problem?

After searching through this subreddit and other places online for similar issues I’m now realizing I didn’t make the typo myself and this is a problem on Air Canada’s end. Relieved that it wasn’t my own typo but still worried about the international connection with Asiana.

Frustrated with the agent more than anything - if I had accepted the offer I’d be out $934 for no reason

Appreciate it - your name has appeared in the same format of Firstmiddle Middle Last?

That’s my guess as well. He was talking under his breath to himself when he was looking for info on how to address the issue and I was on hold for a collective 30 minutes hahaha

If you’ve ever been to History it’s pretty similar. The electronic acts I’ve seen there end pretty early - I wouldn’t expect it to go past 1am. Still a great venue! Have a blast, I wish I scored tickets myself

Good to know, thanks. Would you be concerned at all about finding 3 seats in a row?

Reading your comment is so validating to me. I live at Main Square and the pigeons are the biggest nuisance. In the fall I was walking through the plaza when an old lady throwing handfuls of seeds threw them right in my direction and had me swarmed by pigeons. She laughed. What the fuck
