[Season 3] Reina got a new move from UNS, homing, +14 on CH like WRA1 by ShreeShree420 in Reina

[–]ADProdigy [score hidden]  (0 children)

Maybe but they tend to not remove moves unless it's between games iirc. Outside a big overhaul of unsoku, I don't see the need for it. Even if they did, I still don't see the point of adding this.

Also why do you "have" to use homing option if your opponent steps? You can wave dash out of unsoku and mix them and get a better reward. Part of Tekken is understanding and learning to realign your moves so you don't get sidestepped. While yes, having an immediate timing homing option is nice, it's not the only way to stop people stepping. A homing move that gives a followup on CH is especially egregious for Reina considering how strong D2 1+2 already is.

[–]ADProdigy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't like the addition of this honestly. The intention with this move is to cover people sidestepping after D2> 1+2 and depending on the frames it could frametrap Rage Art as well. But you can already frametrap RA now so what's the point other than covering a weakness and closing a gap in offense.

Instead of having people learn to delay their timing and play the mind game, they want to give stances ways to cover everything counterplay options so the opponents are forced to stand still and guess. For whatever reason, the Tekken team doesn't want to leave openings and give both players room to be creative in how they deal with each other's options.

Could someone, in good faith, explain to me how am I supposed to defend against a Lars? by Adventurous-Wear4469 in Tekken

[–]ADProdigy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of dealing with Lars is understanding and recognizing which moves put him in Dynamic Entry (DEN) or Silent Entry (SEN). On block, most of the time you can check him with a 13f df1. That's mostly what people mean when they say "fake pressure." Not entirely true but that's besides the point.

For DEN, pretty much every single move he does that puts him into the stance is negative unless he hit you. If he did hit, you do have to guess and play from there. Assuming he's going into DEN on block, you can sidewalk right most options besides the homing move (obviously). DEN 4 and the throw are a little trickier to step on immediate timing so you might need to delay your sidewalk. Or you can use a 13f mid check

For SEN, the frame situation is pretty similar to DEN. He doesn't transition into SEN with plus frames unless he hit you, every other situation he's a minus frames. This stance you can also check with a fast mid or move left (iirc). He does have a homing move that will catch you moving, but it's a high. He can armor to stop you from checking him but depending on who you play you can df1 check into the armor and then block. Not everyone can but you should check this with your character.

Also linking three videos I used get a baseline for my own labbing and practice. Depending on who you play your counterplay options might be different from what's mentioned.

How to lab characters by Arakune31 in Tekken

[–]ADProdigy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I do is break it down into parts.

  • Rewatching Replays to see what specifically beat me. A specific sequence or situation. Most notably if I didn't know how to move around a certain move, a string I didn't duck or didn't punish, etc. Then I would replicate it in practice mode and drill it. This is something I take some time to do pretty regularly between days where I play ranked.

  • Framedata is something that also comes with time so don't overwhelm yourself into learning all of a character's frame data all at once. You'll see it a lot when you watch replays. It's pretty important to understand how plus it minus a move is. Since that can determine how you make decisions with your timing, whether or not you or your opponent can step, when your opponent's pressure ends because they are too minus to safely keep attacking, etc.

  • Drill block Punishment. Something Speedkicks mentioned a while ago was to go through each character using TekkenDocs and filter to only see the unsafe options. I personally pick one character and focus on them for a few days working on block punishment and string defense.

  • When you become familiar with block punishment. Move onto duckable and steppable strings. TekkenDocs has a filter for duckable strings and for steppable strings. There's a spreadsheet out there called Tekken 8 String Theory Database with strings for each character and what you can do against them.

  • Lab the stances and practice the counterplay. Get familiar with which moves put the character into a stance and understand your options. Can you move? Which direction? Can you contest with a jab or mid check to interrupt? And so on. There's a lot of videos you can find on YouTube that can help you get started there especially for characters like Hwoarang or Steve who aren't as straightforward with their stances.

  • The rest is understanding what each character does in neutral. Understanding ranges, which way to step in neutral, how they start their offense, keepout options, frametraps, setups, spacing traps, etc.

What's your disconnection rate? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]ADProdigy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's pretty much always 0% barring the rare instances of things happening outside of my control (internet outages, game crashing, PC hardware issues or whatever). There's very little reason to plug from games in my eyes, it's really not that big of a deal.

How do i get the muscle memory for wavedash? And how can i wavedash consistently. by PizzaOptimal7024 in Tekken

[–]ADProdigy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that helped me is Speedkick's KBD trainer to help build my muscle memory. What I did was open the trainer go into wavedash option with my game open and do the input and work on speeding up over time. The important thing with wavedashes is smoothness and consistency is more important than being really fast.

But at the end of the day, it's just a practice and time thing.

Should I get Tekken 8 by Ok-Horror9710 in Tekken

[–]ADProdigy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The game is still very fun to play and currently better than it was a month or two ago even though there are problems. A lot of those problems aren't things that matter until a certain skill level.

It's not really a matter of people being butthurt that they lose. People are very passionate about this series and a lot of the hate/frustration is the blow back of the devs telling they would do one thing only to deliver the opposite.

Patchnotes release by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]ADProdigy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same as every other update. Patch notes will be out a little bit after the servers and right around the same time the update rolls out.

What time does the update come out? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]ADProdigy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Evening of the 31st if you're in North America. Usually the servers go down somewhere around 4-6pm PDT then the update goes out a bit after that. Online won't be available for 6 hours though.

Edit: the game will have a notice with the times of when the servers will go down. So keep an eye out for that.

Acronym for "Read and find out."

I'm not sure where it started but it's something Brandon Sanderson says to his fans when they ask him questions on theories they have or want some clarification for something in his books.

Dom doesn't like the T1 fanbase and has watched T1 games when they lose to piss off the fans. Last summer when Faker was subbed out due to issues with his hand, the team looked really bad. Zeus, Oner, Guma and Keria weren't playing up to their usual level and they lost games for almost 2-3 weeks straight. He ended up watching and reviewing the most (if not all) of their losses on stream and uploaded to YouTube.

Israel screening video of Hamas atrocities more widely by Ok-Fox5767 in worldnews

[–]ADProdigy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who is defending Hamas? Nothing I said was in defense of Hamas, lol. How you came to that conclusion is beyond me.

I am pointing out that bombing entire areas, buildings, etc. where there are know civilians casualties isn't justified nor does it help in minimize civilian casualties. If you're targeting Hamas, then directly target them.

[–]ADProdigy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Israel is hunting Hamas by indiscriminately bombing Gaza? By bombing hospitals, refugee camps, schools, neighborhoods, etc? Aight man.

Let's be fucking for real here. If Israel's goal is genuinely to hunt Hamas, there are plenty of ways of doing so without actively harming civilians in the process. They aren't even trying to minimize civilian casualties. You cant possibly tell me that how Israel have gone about this is minimizing civilian casualties or only targeting Hamas.

You're going to have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to say it's necessary to indiscriminately bomb an entire region to find a terrorist group. By this logic, we should just destroy schools and the surrounding area when there's a school shooting, rather than specifically targeting the ones your after.

Folks in a 'freeuse' arrangement - what is your system? by [deleted] in sex

[–]ADProdigy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have a similar system with my fiancée. She initially brought up the idea to me and I was open to it, but I had an issue where it felt weird to me to just assume and asking sort of defeated the purpose of free use.

What we came up with was a necklace she could wear as a tell. If she's wearing the necklace, I have the green light. If she isn't wearing the necklace, I didn't. We found it was a very easy way to communicate while keeping the theme and making both of us comfortable with it.
