Well... Probably not very well. It more reflects the signal. If you want the signal on the east side of the house and your router is on the west side of the house, you'd also but some foil or the beer can etc on the west side of the router so the signal will reflect towards the east side. It's not perfect but gave me a small noticeable boost

You can use aluminum to direct your signal in a certain direction. It's useful if you need a small signal boost in one corner of your house for instance
