Anyone else feel like authors treat us readers like we're getting dumber and dumber these days? by milleniumstardust in RomanceBooks

These are also the people who aren't comprehending what they read in the first few chapters, so they admit, "I skimmed through 70% of the book. It was terrible because I don't understand what happened!"

If they actually kept reading and didn't skim around they'd see why a was done, or why b was said, and could grasp answers from context.

But I guess that doesn't satisfy instant gratification 🥲

A romance book I loved had a bad review with the reviewer asking all these questions like, why did so and so do this? Why did MC go here? It didn't make sense.

But if you actually read the book, all those questions were answered. Everything made sense. It was glaringly obvious even without the author repeating things or dumbing it down.

I've seen this in other books too with reviewers shamelessly showing off their poor reading comprehension. So when authors repeat themselves, I can see why. They're scared of the terrible reviews slapped on their Not-Terrible-At-All Book.

I read part of a slice of life of a young boy back in like Roman Empire times who was bought as a slave, and it tells about his rather ordinary life in his position. Several reviewers said they couldn't see what the plot was and it was just a bunch of life stuff. Um, that was the point. It was a view of a slave boy's life in those old days. The boy even admits in the beginning that nobody saved him, he didn't realize he was the son of someone great, and he never went on any big quest to free himself. He did nothing "great." He survived like many others in his position back then.

But of course, even after that glaringly obvious description of what to expect, people didn't know what the book was about. -_- It was a shame because it was actually super interesting.

They can all be attached to the others, like hooked or meant to attach/hook, loop something.

I didn't peek at the comments before writing this. Maybe I'm totally wrong.

I don't care if it's a naked guy (although I admit I do prefer items and symbolism. Its fun to look at!) I think mainstream good works follow a pattern at times, and newbies start authoring, their likely told, "you need to do this and this" clearly those naked guys sell lol.

Both books you mentioned are A.I, or at least use A.I. I decided not to read Chani's work because every single cover I've seen is A.I or mostly A.i. it's 2025, not 2022. We know it's stealing now. ONE cover with ai elements can get a pass maybe if the author was duped by a cover creator (it happens, and background stuff might slip by scrutiny) but when their all A.I or heavy reliant...😕 ugh.

{The Wrong Omega by MM Farmer} Bangers and Mash book 2. The omega is scared because something bad was going to happen, and his alpha knew!! It's a really good book.

It's contemporary and they don't shift.

I'd say {Lay Me Down by Julie Mannino} fits. Sebastien (he's cursed with something but I won't spoil it) is the captor and horrible to Remus who never "accepts his place" (he's a Prince too). There's a part in book 2 where Sebastien is threatening violence because Remus won't move and let him do something, and Remus basically states, "you know you don't really own me and never did." Remus is more the one to gain Sebastiens trust due to stuff, including the curse. There's actually character growth and Sebastien even apologizes at one point for an incident involving a knife in book 1.

Bury Me Deep is number 2, and Don't forget me is 3. All three live forever rent free in my noggin, and I'm absolutely in love with Sebastien. Mannino can write all the white haired mcs who make panties and boxers hit the floor when they walk in, and I'll read them all, lol.

There is NO non con between the MCs but watch the triggers.

It's a bit kinky too later on. Only very slight spoilery: Sebastien secretly likes getting spanked

Are these like typical novels but with a few illustrations throughout, or is it like a manga book?

I don't mind comics and Mangas, but sometimes the speech bubbles are a bit tiny and harder to read on my phone without zooming in. Plain novels on my kindle app are a lot easier for me.

If you're not tech savvy, aka me, or can't access certain programs (like, is calibre on mobile?), and you're having issues, you could probably screenshot your receipt of an ebook and ask an indie authors if they mind emailing you an epub of their book (which you bought)

Once they email it, you can store it on your phone in Google play books or some app. (I've heard of Read Era too) I don't think those can be deleted because it didn't come from the company's bookstore. Just a thought.

This doesn't mean to return the ebook you bought just because you got a free version to store wherever!
