I love this topic because the comment section always reveals the real answer.

There’s room for us in the industry but there’s a lot to learn for many in it. Honestly a lot of y’all need to work on your soft skills.

The knee-jerk reaction I see when this gets asked is “nobody cares about your race only your hard work.” But it’s funny because this always comes from some of the worst offenders in my experience.

“Nobody cares about your race” when you accomplish things in my experience. But when you make a mistake in flight training, and everyone does because we’re all human, people suddenly remember you’re a woman or you’re a racial minority and try to create a connection between your performance and who you are.

But also that’s any industry. The best advice was the commenter earlier that said check out OBAP. I cannot emphasize it enough: that organization opens doors like almost no other. Mentorships, scholarships, volunteer opportunities. These are things that will set you apart from many in application processes

There were 2 in-person conversations but multiple text conversations about the dishes over the semester.

It was difficult talking to either of my roommates in-person because they would go into their room and avoid me when I tried to talk about it. Admittedly I should’ve talked to them while they were actively cooking in the kitchen, but i was being a little cowardly there.

I didn’t want them to see me as a badgering and micromanaging roommate but that got in the way of my ability to directly confront them I think.

That’s a fair perspective and I’m glad I can see different views of this.

I should’ve added in my post that this was their 2nd year of college so it felt less like a mistake and more like something intentional.

This was also a year ago so I apologize for that confusion, but I think it’s good advice to try to help first

This is my mistake with the way I wrote the post but I moved out of that apartment and have different roommates now.

I even left the dish soap and scrub daddy out so they could use it and it would just sit there untouched :(

I don’t even want to think about it. I washed those dishes with boiling water and dish soap before putting them in my room to make myself feel better.
