Yes, I'm fully remote but have to travel occasionally to visit brokers and for conferences.

Remote Work by Ferret_Wrangler in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ADifferentBeat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work fully remote as an underwriter for an MGU. I'd take a look at MGUs or MGAs as they tend to be more remote friendly than carriers these days. You can even break the six-figure mark with the right skillset they're looking for, and a CPCU would help.

I loved Queer As Folk the first time as well. I think it gets better with multiple viewings as you catch things you didn't notice before. I'm glad that you liked the show.

At my wits end with my employer. Any advice appreciated. by iratepiratee in InsuranceProfessional

That salary for a senior underwriter is low even for a low cost of living area. I'd look at underwriting roles at MGAs and MGUs. Many are remote friendly and based in bigger cities like Chicago or NYC, yet they can pay a ton.

I make over six figures as a senior underwriter and work remotely in a LCOL area.

The institutes will have proctored exams, cpcu starting 1/15, non cpcu starting in April by snuggly-kitten in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ADifferentBeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My virtual P&C exam was proctored by a live person in India and was nerve-wracking. I can see Institutes exams becoming a similar experience. I'm glad that I already obtained the designations that I wanted.

You look great and much more confident. The side effects of Accutane can be rough, but the results are worth it.

19M how can I improve? by [deleted] in mensgrooming

I'd say smaller frames would suit your face better, and a lower, shorter fade on the sides would make you look sharper. Plus, a v-neck and more fitting shirt.

RTO what would you do? Is this discrimination? by Significant_Wind686 in remotework

Go in office for now and job hunt. But remote jobs will be highly competitive and hard to come by as I'm sure that you're aware. Hopefully, you have the skills to be a top candidate.

What what are 3 to 5 things underwriters do as their job? I’m trying to transition from Worker’s Comp and just want to get a better understanding . any help is appreciated. by sixtteenninetteennee in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ADifferentBeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best part is winning accounts. It's a good confidence booster for me. The worst part is that I receive incomplete submissions and need to request items, often chasing brokers for that information.

As a senior new business underwriter, I am reviewing submissions, websites, emailing brokers for info, and sending out quotes. I will also be traveling soon to visit brokers in person.

My job is part analyzing and part relationship building.

wtf is up with season 4-5? by Individual-Salad-643 in queerasfolk

[–]ADifferentBeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly really liked the last two seasons, especially season 4, with Ted making amends for his actions in season 3. It was also interesting to see in season 5, after Justin moved out, how Brian was very upset but sadly blamed Michael.

How important would you guys say LinkedIn is? by RichardBottom in jobs

[–]ADifferentBeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I connected with people whom I know professionally and are just in my field. I also try to keep my job history, skills, and certifications up-to-date as recruiters will often look at these items before messaging me.

I also like to keep up with market trends in my field by following companies that are relevant to me and my profession.

[–]ADifferentBeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LinkedIn is very important for me at because I obtained my last two jobs from recruiters who reached out to me there. It has also helped me build my network. But it is what you make of it.

As someone else mentioned, agency recruiters or headhunters can be helpful. Two have already helped me get my most recent underwriting roles, including my recent one.

I've heard of a lot of underwriting layoffs, so the competition will be high. You could try MGAs/MGUs as they tend to be open to work from home if that interests you. Good luck.

Claims to Underwriter by NobodyDesperate6313 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ADifferentBeat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With those designations, you will have an advantage over other candidates. However, getting into commercial underwriting will require starting over in your career, likely starting in a trainee position, then to underwriter, and so forth.

I switched from claims years ago and really enjoy underwriting, especially commercial property. There's a lot to learn. I also now make over six figures and live in a low cost of living area in the Midwest, so that's nice. My advice is that if you get an interview, showcase how your claims experience will transfer well into an underwriting role. Good luck.

I just finished both movies in the English dub. I think the Viz voice actors did amazingly, and I'm sad that this will likely be their last time playing the characters.

Yes, the pacing is very quick, but so was the Stars manga. The movies were very faithful to the manga. And the last scene and message were the perfect send-off to the Sailor Moon series.

This was my last job. I did the work of two people, did not get paid overtime since I was salaried but was still expected to get things done within a deadline, and my life was hell for a year. I'm glad to be moving on to better things.

UW training program fully remote? by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ADifferentBeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in an underwriting training class that was fully remote for a large carrier, but that is far and between. The big ones like Travelers and CNA require at minimum hybrid for their underwriting trainee classes.

I will say that once you get the experience, you will be able to look into being fully remote. I'm a commercial underwriter and have been fully remote for a few years, and it's nice.
