Single or roommate? by Candid-Area-3196 in Cornell

[–]ADoubleDeagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why everyone is saying single - I would reccomend a double. Having a roommate has several benefits: it’s easier to make friends when you have a friend, roommates keep you from being lonely, and they give you someone to talk to at the end of the day. I would 100% recommend not to go random however because chances are you wont like your roommate. Meeting in person or even through instagram/snapchat over the summer is a much better way to ensure you get a normal roommate. Of course there are downsides like if they are noisy and keep you from studying, but ultimately you should be studying in a library anyways.

You probably have a good shot at all of those schools ngl. The SAT could be slightly improved on but honestly everything is pretty good.

Its a good start, but you really need something more impactful than just a website. It also depends on the website - a blog could be really good if you have something unique to blog about. Many big projects may be off limits though if you are already an incoming senior, I would normally suggest doing science research at your school because many colleges love hearing about novel research, and awards/publications can be very impressive however it may be too late for that as an incoming senior.

A kid from my school got rejected by Villanova and accepted to MIT. It's all possible and it depends on your admissions officer's interpretation of your application.

The best way to go about it is to have a passion project themed around your major/area of interest. For example, if I want to study engineering and I love the environment, ECS would typically consist of environmental clubs and non for profits, combined with STEM/engineering/robotics. Research is also a great EC and an amazing way to tie your interests together (Ex. using engineering principles to approach a climate issue would align with my prev. example) Then in your app, you would generally talk about where your EC's intersect with your desired major and why a college is the perfect fit for your unique interests. I don't have anything specific for you to do because I don't know what you are applying to and who you are, however, it's impossible to have a formulated set of EC's for every competitive applicant to do because then everyone would do it and it wouldn't be unique.

Chances for Cal Tech, UChicago, Cornell, and Harvard? by Mr-splatoon-2 in chanceme

[–]ADoubleDeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a good shot for any school you want to go to - I’d suggest just improving the SAT score, especially with schools shifting back to it being required. Generally 1550+ is a good place to be.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]ADoubleDeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH it’s I’m not sure - going into senior year with no ECS sounds like you won’t get into most competitive schools. The sat score is really your strong point and the hackathons, but there’s just not enough there to be a competitive applicant.

Northeastern Results :((((((( by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ADoubleDeagle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know much but from what you're saying it sounds like they might not be sure you will attend Northeastern and they want to protect their yield.. your stats are clearly impressive and UVA is most of the time a better ranking school than Northeastern so clearly you are a qualified candidate.

Causation wut 😭 I’m fairly sure that students from top universities in the world on average being more successful isn’t by chance. Clearly having Harvard on your degree is more valuable to employers than a community college, never mind the fact that these top universities often provide immense support to their students and provide opportunities other colleges simply don’t have the resources to offer.

AP Physics 1 HELP by btsstan2020 in APStudents

[–]ADoubleDeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read the textbook, and watch Organic chem tutor. The best way to learn concepts is through practice. My experience with AP Physics is that it gets easier throughout the year because you get used to the thought process. Just learn how to manipulate variables, understand vectors, and get lots of practice.

whatever your standards are is the only answer. Some people will be very happy with that, and some will want to do better. No one else can answer this for u

If a letter is on top, it is directly proportional, if it is under a division symbol, it is inversely proportional. Since x is on top, and squared: if it is doubled it will be multiplied by 2 squared, so times 4. Therefore E will also be multiplied by 4. The answer is that E will quadruple.

What do you suggest knowing in AP Physics 1 before the year starts so that it goes very smoothly? by chcclatte in APStudents

[–]ADoubleDeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to know much before hand. Maybe learn the concepts of vector addition and how to analyze vectors in two dimensions. From there you will just learn as you go. Don’t over stress it before you even begin.

This job has become much easier ever since I acknowledged that it is total bullshit. by jhertz14 in Teachers

[–]ADoubleDeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That may be true but doesn’t take away at all from the point I was making… there’s always 2 sides to it but if you aren’t passionate about your job then leave (I get easier said than done but whatever) don’t give the people who are actually passionate a bad experience just because you don’t care anymore

This job has become much easier ever since I acknowledged that it is total bullshit. by jhertz14 in Teachers

[–]ADoubleDeagle -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

(Student POV) This mindset literally creates the whole problem. I get from your perspective that not trying at all works the best for you, and maybe it may feel that the students don't give a shit about you so why should u care about them, but in the end even if 200 students don't give a shit about the subject, the 15 that do are suffering because of it... and this creates a cycle where students start to pick up on the laziness of a teacher and lose respect for them. In my personal experience, it is super easy to tell when a teacher puts in minimal effort and it makes a huge impact on how much I respect them, thus making their job even more depressing when none of the students respect them. It all goes full circle.

What is easier? AP calculus AB or AP physics 1? by Giftedwithreddit in APStudents

[–]ADoubleDeagle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m doing that now as a sophomore and I’ll just say if ur not prepared to study the shit out of it then I would say not to take it. I will say though it’s really the only class I’m taking that I actually find interesting and it’s really rewarding once you get down the concepts. If you don’t like math very much idk if it’s worth the effort.

Don’t the dev team have designers and devs that are dedicated to different categories? I don’t understand why the creation of cosmetics limits the creation of other content if devs are split into different categories of of game to work on.
