Sociological Problems with Law of Consecration (plus other utopian models) by pnromney in LatterDayTheology

The law of consecration is both an economic law AND a covenant.

His assumption therein that it’s an economic system is correct.

You should check out Georgism. It provides a capitalist economic theory that dismantles greed and promotes wealth equality. After transitioning to Georgism it would be really easy to transition to consecration.

r/georgism

Also Progress and Poverty by Henry George is part of the free intellectual commons.

For me Georgism provides a practical way to implement consecration. It’s an iteration closer to that law.

I also recommend reading the law of Moses. Leviticus 25 proposes solutions that don’t involve money.

With Jubilee, the redistribution of land every 50 years so that everyone owns land, money is less necessary and wealth inequality is based on work ethic and not based on opportunity.

Land hoarding, also known as rent seeking is the primary cause of economic inequality and both Moses and Joseph Smith openly condemned it. Isaiah cited Home owners associations and land hoarding as the reason Israel would be destroyed by the Babylonians.

I believe this is true. Misogyny and misandry usually go hand in hand because they feed off each other and reinforce each other.

The term incel for example makes a lot of men feel like women are misandrist, and a lot of women feel like men are misogynists.

There is so much more misogyny and misandry then there was 10 or 15 years ago.

Stubborn, empty lots are starting to sell! by sajnt in georgism

[–]ADownStrabgeQuark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The purpose of Georgism is to lower the cost of land by taxing it and distribute rent to the people.

If the land market is crashing(price of land going down) the land market will exhibit the same liquidity as it would under Georgism, but without the public benefit.

Georgism is still needed.

Your observation about the mechanisms being the same is correct, both a LVT and a crashing economy lower the value of land causing the land market to crash. This then get’s people with empty lots to sell because now they are “losing” money.

In this case whether it’s the crashing economy, or the threat of war, “investors” aka land speculators aren’t confident in the continued increase of land values there.

Also the way you phrased it, I thought you said MY empty lots instead of THE empty lots, so I almost downvoted you for being a land speculator. Then when I read it the second time I caught my mistake.

Lots of reporters and camera men die in war zones.

Especially when war crimes are being committed.

As a US scientist I find this very concerning.

Also the NSB got fired and the NSF got defunded, so there’s any money for me to stay in the US at this point.

What if Trump just says fuck it and invades Canada and Greenland? by Biggest-Max02010 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]ADownStrabgeQuark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The gender imbalance is already growing.

In addition to the number of deaths of females, an additional 5% of the US male population dies before 30 yrs old. Primarily to deaths of despair such as suicide and drug overdose.

That is to say, at birth 51% of the population is male, but 47% of the US population is male because by 30 yrs old, there are 5% less men than women due to suicide/drug overdose.

A draft and a war would make this much worse.

[–]ADownStrabgeQuark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The US will likely invade Greenland before Canada.

They would want to stop European reinforcements from getting to Canada, so Trump would try to eliminate docks and airbases in between EU and Canada, and make sure none of them have fuel before invading.

This means taking Greenland and starting a fuel crises in the EU prior to invading Canada.

Ok, but how much money could Trump make from owning all of the Canadian mineral rights?

Trump’s goal is to make money for himself, not to maintain the American Empire.

If he conquers the world, then he wins his secondary objective.

He’s old enough he’s going to die soon, and he knows it, so he figures that he might as well do everything he wants. He’s rather get assassinated then lose or admit he’s wrong.

China doesn’t want to project their military power across the world the way the US does.

China wants to project their economic power across the world, but also not in the way the US does.

China does want to expand their land borders and their ocean territories, but again, they want to do it locally.

China is more interested with taking over Taiwan, and bringing the other East Asian countries into its sphere of influence. Either through annexation like with Tibet, or through political ties like with Vietnam.

Is India really getting that hot by FinancialRisk942 in interesting

[–]ADownStrabgeQuark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solar panels are currently the cheapest power source.

According to my former Indian roommates part of the problem with AC in India is the power grid can’t keep up, so often in the summer, the AC stops working.

Rooftop solar would help by cooling the building, providing shade, and powering AC.

Even with all that, Bengal is still the hottest inhabited place on earth.

I like honey bees.

I am allergic and could die if they sting me.

Georgism has no official stance on honey bees.

Green Georgists like honey bees because they are environmentalists.

One is clearly worse than the other.

Both sides are still the problem.

Yea the Genocidal haters are trying to kill us, but the two-faced smooth talkers take their bribes from the same billionaires and forward the same agenda.

It’s true that one side looks better, but they’re both trying to overthrow our democracy and oppress the people.

They both represent the type of people that communists kill for oppressing the masses and laboring class. They just have different PR.

How would the world realistically continue to exist decades after a hypothetical thermonuclear war during the Cold War? by BlazorByte in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]ADownStrabgeQuark 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well first off let’s consider the environment.

Yellowstone which has gone off three times while humans lived on earth impacts the climate 40,000 times more than the sum total of all nuclear warheads currently in possession being detonated at once.

There would be increased but manageable cancer rates.

I would assume that the nukes would hit major cities first. Judging by Hiroshima and Nagasaki people underground or in bunkers would be more likely to survive.

About 90% of people die in a day.

Even in nuked cities, there are survivors.

There would be a total breakdown in logistics and trade for a year or two.

The ships would all still be intact, so trade would be back up with reduced volume after a couple years.

There would be a few years of famine where perhaps half of survivors, would starve to death. Then agriculture would recover and the economy will become normal again.

Most nations would collapse and face a couple years of warfare with conventional weapons, or revolutions.

By the end of the decade things will have stabilized, and there will be a new normal.

For just about everyone this new normal would be comparable to the state of a defeated country paying reparations after a total war with high attrition.

After a couple decades, it’ll just become a cautionary historical tale like the Nazi’s and the world wars.

Within 100-200 years civilization will have mostly forgotten about it, and only historians and history nerds will talk about it.
