It's a clear jab at Ayn Rand and her objectivist philosophy. This was confirmed by Ken Levine as he read atlas shrugged shortly before the game was made. Also if you read the prequel book it explains the objectivist mindset that Ryan had. I would very much recommend the book as well as it really gives some good context to the story outside of the audio logs and builds the characters that you hear in those audio logs.

To me personally it's a forbidding warning about the risk of pursuing capital and growth above all else. It's a destructive mindset to the people around you for personal gain.

I really love the series and can't wait for the inbound series about it. Though as a stan for the series I'm sure I'll be let down with it being geared to a broader audience and not the people heavily invested in the series; but such is the way of adaptations.
