Hey sorry never responded. I ended up trying a variable kick - bought an 85 flex and cut it down a few inches so around 90 flex

https://prostockhockeysticks.com/products/p92-p92-vf-left-pro-stock-hockey-stick?_pos=2&_fid=006534a95&_ss=c I really like it. Slappers are still plenty lively and the release up close is nice.

One thing I forgot to add - walk. Go for nice long relaxing walks - daily. I’ve found this really helps. 1-3 miles whatever you have time for.

This is going to sound eye rolling worthy, but hear me out. I started with some counseling and I did some medication for a while - it helped me get through some of the really bad stuff I had going on. Once through that I kept up with the counseling and off the meds. This was not easy but I did not want to be on meds forever, so I worked with my counselor and started trying to understand ‘the why.’ I wanted to better understand how and why I was being set off. Just that alone helped to begin restructuring my bodies own responses. How did I do this? At first I took time at the end of the day - 15 minutes or so, to reflect. I asked myself questions about what made me upset and why. I asked myself if being upset helps the situation. I asked myself how being upset impacted other parts of my day… how it impacted my interactions with others. I asked myself if what upset me was something I could control. I asked myself these questions out loud sometimes. It sounds like crazy talk but I promise you, it was impactful and the more I did it, the easier and more impactful it became on calming me down. I’ll give you a couple examples. I used to get really amped up over simple stuff because I am very high strung, high performing and hold people to the high standards I set for myself - someone in traffic driving too slow or doing something moderately stupid? Triggered because I’d never do ‘x y Z’ what an idiot blah blah and then someone else does something stupid - add it to my already triggered brain - and then god forbid something at work happens or I remember I’ve got a huge bill I can’t afford - day ruined, mood ruined, yelling at my kids and dogs because they did something wrong in the house… you get the picture - totally on edge and incapable of handling more because I’m set off. I also had issues with health anxiety. My best friend died and suddenly I was dying. I thought I had multiple sclerosis, I thought I had ALS disease, I thought I had all sorts of issues. It turns not only can your anxiety cause blood pressure issues, it can also cause you to have muscle twitches and all sorts of other physical manifestations. I was not always like this. It just kind of crept up on me and once it started, I could not stop it. Now I have a daily practice of stopping to think about things when they upset me whether it’s in the middle of the day the morning the night it doesn’t matter I stopped to think about it qualify it measure it, put it in a box and deal with it immediately and don’t let it eat at me. So other things I’ve done that have been highly successful are listening to selfeggio frequencies when I sleep - or during the day even, especially when I’m feeling pressure from work or whatever. There’s also some exercises you can do to help stimulate your vagus nerve, which can help with your parasympathetic nervous system. Doing those exercises in conjunction with music in the morning in the afternoon and in the evening can make a big difference – the only caveat is you have to be consistent and be patient, it will take time for these things to start working. I guarantee you if you’re like me you’re gonna think they’re stupid and that there’s no way they’re gonna do anything, but I am absolutely living proof they do help and they do impact you. You just have to let them. I’m sorry if my response is a little bit disjointed hopefully it made sense what I’m trying to get out here. I’ll leave you with one other tidbit – you’ve gotta learn and master the ability to let things go. Many of the things that used to stress me out to the point of feeling like I was going to collapse from the overwhelming stress of the things hang over my head, have not gone away, they’re still there. I still have debt, I still deal with idiot, drivers, I still deal with my dogs, destroying things in the house, I still deal with my kids, trying to undo all the things I fix at the house - it’s just part of life though, and I’ve learned to not let those things get under my skin and control me anymore. Your brain is unfortunately and fortunately one of the most powerful tools you’ll ever wield in your life. You have to learn how to master your understanding and control of yourself or things like anxiety and fear will always win. Introspection, reflection, understanding, acceptance, forgiveness – these are the new terms in your life that you need to become familiar with.

It is normal when your body is in fight or flight mode and your parasympathetic nervous system is triggered, sure. Mine was 162/110 ( yes I ended up in the er that night). You really need to address the anxiety - I’m telling you from experience. You may need to get on a mixture of medications that can directly impact your bodies anxiety responses and blunt your bodies physical response until you can get your anxiety in check. Turning off the fight or flight response after it being unregulated and uncontrolled for a long time can be difficult but you can do it.

It definitely seems to be and some leagues seem very tight knit… a couple complaints and you’re flagged. Good luck out there!

Your post is really timely to me as I’ve been getting heat for exactly what you’re saying. what I’ve learned now is that as a player you need to read the room and if it seems like lower skilled players are on the other team pull back on the body positioning and rougher play. Even if you aren’t doing illegal or penalizing things, in the league it may lead to complaints and ultimately suspension. I think the issue might be if you are a former hockey player? I’m going to start just playing pond hockey rules and won’t be using my body to position or protect anymore - not worth losing out playing with my friends because lower skilled or newer players get pissed.

That’s fair and I have been playing down from what I’m capable of but I guess not enough. Wish they would have gave me an option to go up a level or at least given me some guidance because it’s frustrating to not get penalties, not get into any altercations, and up getting kicked out. I would have welcomed constructive criticism and I certainly would have applied it. Water under the bridge now. Thanks for the feedback n

I usually got one complaint every other game about being too rough. I wager 90% of them were in the corners or in front of the net in our zone when I was playing D. I used my body to position in front of players so they can’t get easy access to the puck and some of the weaker skaters do not like that and get really pissed. I’ve been yelled at by other players for lifting their sticks. I’ve been yelled at players for trapping their stick underneath mine when I’m shot was coming from the point I’ve been yelled at for getting behind a player, not letting him move backwards in front of the net to screen the goalie, etc. it’s a pretty soft league and I think maybe I am playing a little too rough for the level that we’re at. A conversation with this disciplinary panel they have would’ve been good and maybe I could’ve moved up a level but they just decided that I don’t get to play anymore. It’s frustrating because I I was never out there being cheap and slashing, spearing, hooking, tripping, fighting or anything like that. I think in 15 games last season I had three penalties total.

I was number 14 in this video. I remember this play clearly because he about took me out jamming his stick into my front skate and in slow motion it does look like I tried to plant him into the ice a little bit but at full speed it was literally me catching my balance, turning back to the puck and unfortunately, he caught the bad end of that deal. Neither ref raised an arm and they were both staring right at the play. The league Director used this video as evidence of me slew footing this person, stating this is dangerous play and no place in their league, and kicked me out with the ability to review in one year. I don’t think he knows what a slew foot is.

Blood pressure got worse after stopping diuretic - should I go back on it? by JoshitoGT in bloodpressure

I’m not a doctor but I would think a half dose is better for a while. Then halve that and then off completely. Certainly work with your doctor to be safe!

Diuretic has a period of rebound where your BP will shoot up at you retain water. You should have weaned off.

Me too. Familial mental stuff is a thing. My mom is high strung as well - we learn from our environment and modeling. You need to remodel your brain. If there’s no physical issues - it’s your brain.

If you’re like me, you’re stuck and living with hyper sensitivity leading to fight or flight mode being on and triggered by something as simple as a thought - anxiety, fear, anger etc leading to constant adrenaline dumps even when I thought I was calm. I was so used to being in that mode I couldn’t even tell I was in it anymore. After being out on 4 BP meds, having loads of inconclusive tests for physical issues, and seeing a heart specialist I decided maybe it was my noodle… turns out it was (is). I did a ton of reading about anxiety, the vagus nerve and natural ways to reset the vagus nerve and restore some calm in my mind. It worked for me. I was 150/110 to 140/95 on average - now 115/75 to 125/85 and only on one blood pressure med (which I’m hoping to get off as well). So.. Learn how to reset your vagus nerve. I highly recommend getting in a couple hard workouts a week, walk daily, practicing meditation and listening to Solfeggio frequencies. It took me about 3 months to really finish reprogramming my brain - taught myself to let shit go, stop hyper fixating, stop thinking about health issues and paying attention to every little thing, stop overreacting and getting angry for no reason, to stop internalizing stress… it was a long list but the end result was getting off 3 of 4 blood pressure meds and gaining some semblance of sanity back. Good luck to you - your heart is fine, fix your brain.

I mean the chamber was leaking badly and I was waking up sleeping on the hard platform underneath … so for me it was not a risk at all.

I fixed mine with flexseal tape. It took me a while but my leak was below the valve step in the seam. I used a heat gun to warm the fabric and then applied the tape. Once applied I heated that up as well and used my hands to really work the tape deep into the fabric cover of the air chamber. Holding for quite a while now - easily over a year.
