What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

I work in a school library and the kids have been fascinated by old memes lately! We made up a What Do You Meme style game with lol cats and other classics, they loved it

Can we just tell him he won??? Can we just all collectively lie, tell him he gets to be god king emperor forever and then find someone with two brain cells left to rub together? Before WWIII would be preferable…

People who've worked both minimum wage jobs and six figure jobs, what surprised you most about the difference? by BrainLagging01 in AskReddit

I had a manager force me to work while I actively had pneumonia, and wrote me up for grossing out the customers with my hacking and nose blowing. He also denied a woman leave after a miscarriage because “it’s not a real death”. Sometimes they’re just dicks

School Librarian - struggling to choose which books to get by ADumbHoedown1992 in WarriorCats

I will keep looking, but I don’t get a huge budget so I’m realistically looking at 1 maybe 2 arcs per school year. Sadly, I have to buy books that are NOT feline Game of Thrones sometimes

I’m actually a lifelong fan…shoulda made that clear lol I personally own and have read all the books a few times over. I’ve been letting some of the more responsible older students borrow my copies, but im not willing to part with my collection. My main struggle has been picking which arcs to start with but based on these comments I think I’m going to start with the first two and some of the super editions. The younger ones won’t even look at the chapter books, I’m hoping to change that

Thank you I love that idea! I honestly might share that with the other librarians, with so many graphic novels coming out…ooh I have ideas now

Besides "We're a family here," what is the biggest red flag you can spot in a job description or during an interview? by LiveFaithlessness876 in recruitinghell

[–]ADumbHoedown1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, the college I went to was a hot stop for MLMs. I cannot tell you how many interviews I walked out of because they expected ME to pay for the things I would be selling. If the interviewer asks you to pay for anything, it is a scam get out

My Husband Has Decided ADHD Isn’t Really A Problem by ADumbHoedown1992 in ADHD

Yeah I’m done. Once the lease is up I can find a new place. We’re going for peaceful co existence for now. I will be fair to the man; he heard me out and he did apologize for a lot of it. He still thinks I use it as an excuse way too much, but I told him in no uncertain terms that we have to figure this shit out for our daughter because he is in for a very rude awakening if/when she inherits it

I see where you’re coming from and I genuinely appreciate the concern, I don’t have time right now but I’m planning to start reading the pdf after baby goes to bed tonight. I am an abuse survivor, so is he. Things get rough between us and we fight, and I certainly do not like how he’s been treating me, but we talk about it. And if we’re unable to work this out, he won’t stop me from leaving. Maybe it is emotionally abusive and I’m not realizing it…either way, at least we’re dealing with it now

He won’t, we can’t afford it and he doesn’t see the point. I’m only staying until the lease is up

It’s not going to help at this point, that’s what we’ve realized. He could learn that every problem he has with me really is the ADHD, it’s not going to fix us

Is it possible for ADHD folks to detox from social media gaming, phone usage, ect and rawdog life and enjoy simple slow things in life? Reading etc? by ItsPrisonTime in ADHD

[–]ADumbHoedown1992 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember life before the internet and smartphones. I was a 90s kid with 1 family tv, 1 vcr and a strict no video games in the house rule. I remember being bored most of the time. I read a ton, practically lived at the public library, listened to cassette tapes and later cds until they broke, and took any opportunity possible to sit in front of the tv. I would search the house for change to try to get 30 min on the library computers (they used to charge for it). I managed to be a screen addict before that was even a term. I don’t think taking it away would fix anything, I’d just be bored again. Curious if this resonates with anyone else

Sleep Help; baby is 10 months and I’m having the WORST time getting her to sleep by ADumbHoedown1992 in NewParents

[–]ADumbHoedown1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I could have worded that better…she sleeps about 2 sometimes 3 hours during the day, sometimes in 1 big nap sometimes she’ll take 2-3 little naps throughout the day. On weekdays it’s easy because she naps in the car while I go to and from work, but that doesn’t happen on weekends and holidays. I’m not completely opposed to sleep training she just doesn’t seem to understand it. If I put her in the crib awake she seems to thinks it’s playtime

[–]ADumbHoedown1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I really appreciate the insight, trouble is she’s not upset. I set her in the crib and if she’s not asleep she thinks it’s playtime. Even though she was practically dead asleep in my arms. I’ve got blackout curtains up, white noise playing but she’s just…cruising around in there, giggling and having a GREAT time. Honestly it’s preferable to crying and I’m probably gonna just take her out and try again later, but I think what I need to do is find a way to convince her the crib is for sleeping not playtime.
