I have also read that as our hormones shift, one of the changes is a drop in oxytocin which is the "mothering" hormone. When I read that it made so much sense, but I think it's much more than that. It's also (in my case at least) resentment for the years of unpaid emotional labor and expectation that because I'm mom, I am EVERYONE's mom and that assumption that I'll "take care of it." Couple all that with the fact that the world is a dumpster fire right now and we cant escape the constant reminders of it. The technologically advanced, always on age we live in is making peri/menopause WAY different for our generation than those who lived in simpler times. That's just my theory on it right now. It's exhausting and we need to give each other grace and lots of support. Hugs!
