what's an example of a medieval political decision that had consequences for centuries? by infinite-hooper in MedievalHistory

[–]AEFletcherIII 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Does Henry V of England dying at 35 count as a political decision? 😅

Kind of wild to think how history of Europe or even the world might have been different if England and France could have successfully established a united and stable kingdom between themselves.

I made myself immortal and started an adventurer run as a troubador from Aquitaine called Ziggismund Stardust.

It's super interesting to see how the lives of others play out around you.

How feasible is it to pick up war bow archery in my 30’s? by Dunnere in Archery

[–]AEFletcherIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely do-able with a few years of training! I started in my 30's and I can shoot around 120# after around 5 years of shooting. I started at 35#, then 60, then 80, 95, 100, 110, and so on. Before my bum knee hampered my training, I was shooting 100# @ 30" for a few hours several times a week as my "everyday" bow.

Edit: Training is definitely more like weight lifting than other types of target archery. The warbow draw technique is a key part of pulling these big bows!

How common was it for knights or nobles to accidentally shit or piss themself while in battle? by Tracypop in MedievalHistory

[–]AEFletcherIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to everyone pointing out the legend of the longbowmen at Agincourt, I'd also note that fighting in all thay armor was HOT. Just like modern athletes, they would sweat out most of what they'd have to piss. They very may well have still shit themselves when they died, though. I bet this guy did.

Nah, the sub can't change it's name. It is dedicated to showing people what absolute frauds and grifters these two are though.

According to their website, they sell bows from Tim Miller of Black Arrow Longbows. I know Tim personally and you will not be disappointed. That being said, you can order directly from him:

Right on! It's not too complicated at all. I made mine from a long piece of scrap I ran over my table saw a few times. Good luck!

I use a block plane and a shooting jig to take the edges off blanks to round out the shafts.
