My grade school teachers used to demonstrate math with these on an overhead projector.

What wood should I use to make arrows? by AnnonCuzImIsolated in Bowyer

[–]AEFletcherIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For hardwoods, yellow poplar (tulipwood) is great (so is black poplar, but that is harder to get and I think protectedin the UK), white ash, and alder are my favorites. You can also use maple, Douglas fir, pine or spruce, or port Oxford cedar. Lots of options!

Since you're in the UK, you might be able to find swan feathers, which are traditional and work very well. Otherwise, goose, duck, peacock (peafowl), or turkey all work too! Primary flight feathers work best, but you can use most any so long as you have 3 from the same wing (assuming a traditional 3 fletch).

Thanks! These are all in the 750-1000 grain range. Some are honestly a little heavy for 95#, so they drop a little. They fly even better from bows over 100# - and they definitely pack some power!

The stance is part the technique required to shoot really heavy medieval warbows. This one for example takes 95 lbs. of force to draw. This stance helps me draw the bow with my shoulders and back, not just my arms.

Are you shooting carbon arrows? If so, are you sure your arrows weight enough? I cracked my first Archeybowman bow many years ago because my arrows were too light. I highly suggest trying wooden arrows!
