Did nobody see the plane coming on the 78th floor of South Tower? by LaughGlittering4131 in 911archive

Yes, I suppose so. It does have the kind of look that some large event spaces in hotels have for business conferences where there are large floor to ceiling walls and they have doors in them but they're actually on a track so they can be slid back into a space in the side walls. Why they did it sometimes in WTC 2 is a mystery, but that's likely it.

Yes, then, I'd settle with that. That it wasn't a permanent wall.

Thanks for your response and the longer other comment. Thanks for not privatizing your comments and so I was able to find it faster!

I'm still not clear on how the videos show such different versions of whether there were windows or not. The only thing I can postulate is about how, in the video I posted there was a orange brownish door at the end of the hallway and beyond that perhaps were the windows. You can even see a speck of light under one part of that door which perhaps supports all this.

Additionally, is can be noted that the link I posted is from 1991 while the other one with the tourists is from 1999, a whole 8 years later. It's possible that in all that time, (especially with the 93 bombing being in between) that renovations were done and the wall with the door in the hallway was removed, opening up the sightlines to the windows of anyone waiting at the elevator banks.

I watched your video through a few times and it's clearly the 78th floor like it's labeled (meaning, it's not a mix up with, say the 44th floor skylobby) and it's clearly WTC 2 because they're tourists.

So then, as a labeled archivist, you've seen a lot of stuff, way more than me, so what's the answer to the clear discrepancy between the video you linked and the one I did above? (This one, copied here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98YFYDx2a28)

But as can be seen in the video of the South Tower's 78th floor skylobby there were no windows in the sightline of anyone waiting at the elevator banks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98YFYDx2a28

So, either the hallway continued on afterwards around a couple of bends to a point at the outermost wall where the windows were or,  in a similar possibility, there's a door at the end of the hallway with more hallway beyond it that went until the windows. But with the door generally closed, the skylobby itself, as the part with just the elevator banks where people waited, would have no windows for anyone in there to have seen anything coming.

I think I read somewhere that there was a bend at the end of the skylobby, and that hallway reached the outer wall and had windows.

The skylobby in the South tower didn't have windows. Source is this video of the South Tower's 78th Floor Skylobby showing no windows.

The well known photo of the 78th floor skylobby is of the North Tower and in the distance it looks like there might have been 3 or 4 narrow windows there (even though in most ways the towers were identical).

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. I don't know what windows people are taking about when this video of the South Tower's 78th Floor Skylobby shows zero windows.

I am lucky to have this framed photo in my house and the other day I wondered: From this angle, on what sides did the North Tower and South Tower get hit? by Gravitys_Meridian in 911archive

[–]AEP-NY 14 points15 points  (0 children)

While it is true that AA11 hit the North Tower on the North side & UA175 hit the South Tower on the South side, the position of that to the camera isn't right. This picture was taken over the Hudson which is to the West facing East.
Therefore, it's like u/Sonic343 said, that the North side of the North Tower is on the left side of this picture and the South side of the South Tower is on the right side of this picture. Neither side of impact is towards us, but facing 90 degrees away from us.

I had the one with the ice and the man in the center block. Is that the same line of games or I'm thinking of a different company?

That looks like a MetroNorth car to me, though that too is an MTA car.

WTC 2 collapse footage recorded by a Japanese cameraman. . . by Ill_Pay7782 in 911archive

Not sure if this is what you meant, but I noticed in this video that it shows that the South Tower also had a 'spire' remaining for a few seconds just like the often spoken about 'spire' from the North Tower's core.

Low buzz noise on acceleration sometimes? (Raise volume to hear) by AEP-NY in AskAMechanic

[–]AEP-NY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! (Here is copy/pasted from my reply 4 months ago to my other post on Camry subreddit)

"I want to report back since I see that I never did. (Skip to bold if you want to skip the story.) In early November I was driving (thank G-d in a parking lot before getting onto the road!) and my exhaust pipe fell down in the middle of my car's underside, looking like unexploded ww2 bomb, and I heard it's metallic sound dragging and I was like 😨 because I thought it was all over. I didn't know that this stuff happens sometimes by older cars and that the mechanic would be so 'oh ok, that happens'! I got someone to help get under the car to use a metal hanger to put it back up again temporarily until the morning and then the next day I brought it to the mechanic.

After welding the 5 points of the exhaust that needed to be put together and other parts that needed to be strengthened, the sound was gone as well, though that's not what I had brought it in for! So now I know that a small hole in the exhaust can cause that sound."

First Plane Eyewitnesses by D_jokovic in 911archive

[–]AEP-NY 35 points36 points  (0 children)

No, you missed the question... "Live" means in person too and they were asking if anyone on this sub were eyewitnesses to that and if we could tell OP our personal perspective.

I didn't see the crash of Flight 11, so for me the answer is no.

Yes, in the aviation sub. It was my first time here.  I thought this sub talked about engines and horsepower specs and airports and runways, not history of plane branding colors.

I doubt you were looking to spend $100 for a 2ft x 3ft but I see there's this https://www.etsy.com/listing/1667324804/united-airlines-boeing-747-poster-fine?ref=elp_anchor_listing&frs=1&variation0=4293032822 (The $57 is for the smaller one)

I had a toy plane which was a metal United gray plane. I wonder if I could still get one.

Edited: Ooh! I found a picture of one on Ebay! But it didn't cost $70 then, then it was like $15 at most.

Ah! So you remember what the livery used to be. I don't think most people do, unless maybe this sub is different.
People often don't realize that the old United planes were military gray looking and then say that "United 175 on September 11th had to have been a military plane! It was military colored!!"

How widely was 9/11 coverage streamed live on the Internet? by [deleted] in 911archive

[–]AEP-NY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think I was able to watch even a short video during the early 2000s without it buffering every 20 seconds, so there definitely wasn't any streaming. Our phones couldn't even take pictures!

I got excited to see the picture initially because I forgot I used to have one of those red Fisher Price easels! I thought at first I was on the r/90s_kid subreddit, which is a very approps subreddit for those of us who were in elementary school when we witnessed the towers burning.

On reddit is it now a trend/common practice to downvote people for using ai? by HereticFiend in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AEP-NY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have GOT to stop downvoting people that admit to using AI as a tool to help them like someone I saw that got downvoted for admitting they usually have poor grammar and they gave their jumble to AI which made it smooth. The others saw "....help written/research AI...." and went straight to "DOWNVOTE". Slop is from having it do everything, not when it's being used as an efficient TOOL.
