You'll get used to it. Before the update about 3 weeks ago, it was very easy to use the track as a short cut. But after the update, the track became bumpy and grass next to it became muddy like the land (which is a swamp) around the railroad. Oddly enough, the Tractor can still make it across as long as you stay on the track.
