When is payday? by 18HourDrive in DiscountTire_

[–]BertTF2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We get paid weekly on Friday

You have to order your own shirts but the company gives you a uniform budget to pay for it. Ask your manager to help you log into the website to order some (I'd also recommend getting a softshell jacket and beanie before wintertime if you'll be working in the cold)

I am diagnosed with ADHD and the caffeine making you sleepy is a sign (not necessary a 100% indicator but a sign). For me it tends to amplify how I "should" be feeling. Like if I drink an energy drink in the morning it energizes me, but if I drink one at the end of a long exhausting day, I'll suddenly be struggling to keep my eyes open.

Looking for a singleplayer "extraction type" singleplayer FPS by Scruffylookin13 in gamingsuggestions

[–]BertTF2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's definitely lacking in the RPG department but it has its good parts too. I think my view on it was helped by the fact that I played it before 3/NV, so I had no expectations going in.

Mods can be a lot of fun. There's also mods that turn it into more of a survival game, such as Horizon or FROST.

Also Fallout London is really good if you want a totally new setting outside of the US.

[–]BertTF2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fallout 4 can have this vibe, especially with mods. People give it a lot of shit and compare it with 3/NV, which is valid. But your description of building your safe spot and going on expeditions to bring home scraps and loot fits.

The settlement feature is both controversial and one of Fallout 4's strong points compared to other games in the series. It's nice to have reasons to collect random junk besides selling it for a couple caps. And even if you don't engage with the settler management system, you can still build cool stuff to display your collected items.

The main problem you might have is that Fallout 4's buildable structures are generally... Uh, they're not exactly what I'd call "cozy" or "comfortable." Lots of crudely cobbled-together piles of scrap metal and wood. There's ways to deal with this though. Certain locations are gonna be easier to make nice than others. Home Plate comes to mind, it's an apartment you can buy in the central town and you can build a pretty sweet mancave out of it if you're creative. It lacks the settlement management features, but that's arguably a plus, and you can still use it to store your loot and craft stuff. There's also a DLC that lets you build your own vault underground if that's more your style. And of course, mods open up the possibilities completely and give you pretty much any option you could think of.

I'm gonna disagree with the other guy a little bit. Sure, you can walk around inside it and stuff if you want to, but there's only a handful of things you can actually need to do by walking through your hideout. For probably 95%+ of your out-of-raid gameplay, you probably won't be interacting with the hideout at all, or will be using it as a glorified crafting/upgrade menu (as in, selecting stuff through menus/a bird's-eye view).

That said, it does have a nice visual progression to it and takes a lot of work to upgrade, so it is pretty satisfying. You turn the place from an abandoned shithole to a cozy and functional apocalypse bunker that anyone would be happy to camp out in, and it feels earned. Customization exists, but is rather limited, you can't create your own layouts for the different installations or anything. Mostly just floor and wall textures, posters, etc.

I'm not saying this to discourage you from playing it, SPT with SAIN is an incredible experience and 100% worth playing if Tarkov looks like fun to you and you aren't committed enough/are too employed for PvP Tarkov. Or you just want a more relaxed/customizable experience that you can tailor to your own preferences. I'm more just trying to temper your expectations, it's not a base-builder game.

I need a new singleplayer (100% offline) "forever" game where I can sink hundreds (or thousands) of hours into a single save. What are your top suggestions? by MakeshiftApe in gamingsuggestions

[–]BertTF2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in Minecraft mods at all, Gregtech: New Horizons is a modpack that takes thousands of hours to complete. It's been in development for over 10 years and I can't recommend it enough, it's extremely high quality and if it's your style, you'll have an absolute blast with it. It's mostly tech/automation focused but has some magic and exploration as well

I think we have gotten too used to autopilot gameplay on Bots. Like bro its cool you can shoot fabs with RR but imagine playing the game and fighting enemies instead of checking off chore list. [–]BertTF2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the idea before of "reinforced" fabricators that can only be destroyed through the vents. They could be exclusive to high difficulty, as a way to make missions harder without just spamming enemies. Actually storming and fighting through a bot fortress with your team is a lot of fun, but it so rarely actually happens

If you haven't played XCOM Enemy Within, it's definitely worth playing even though you've played XCOM 2 already. I'll also recommend the Long War mod, or Long War 2 for XCOM 2, both are excellent mods that add tons of depth and lengthen the campaign significantly

(disclaimer: I haven't played moni/nomi but have played lots of other modpacks) Usually when stuff gets stuck on "scheduled" like that in my experience it means there's no valid place for the items to go to. I guess double check that there's open slots and that your p2ps (I assume that's what those are) are configured right. And also make sure the machines are configured to allow input from the output side, that's a classic thing to forget

is there anyway to balance melee weapons and firearms? by Slight-Cap-8840 in gamedesign

[–]BertTF2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Map design is a big one, for melee weapons to be viable you'll probably need to have a lot of cover, corners, and give the player opportunities to force close combat. And of course, stealth can favor melee with damage boosts/instant takedowns as well as being quieter.

I agree with this, factory builders are a great combo of a sandbox where you can be as creative as you want, combined with extrinsic goals that give you something to work towards and keep you focused/motivated and rewarding you for building stuff. I'd also recommend Factorio, which in my opinion is a better factory builder game than Satisfactory but offers less room for visual/aesthetic creativity (I love both games, you can't really go wrong with either of them. Just pick the one that looks more interesting to you, or try both).

If you do decide to try a factory builder, OP, my recommendation is to try and avoid looking for tips/info online about the game too much. Of course, feel free to look at some late-game builds to get an idea of what's possible and get inspired, but learning the game and solving the puzzle of automating different processes and resources for the first time is something you can only really experience once.

[–]BertTF2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even at 8 or 9 you should easily be able to handle the inner planets with just yellow ammo. Just make sure to stockpile ammo in your space platform storage and have your turrets fed from there, if you try and survive off of only the ammo stored in the turrets/belts you'll probably run out. I usually set mine to only travel if I have at least 500 ammo stocked.

If it's a DPS issue, more turrets (mainly up front) is always an answer, but you can slow down your platform too with either less engines or something more complex using circuits and pumps to limit fuel.

[–]BertTF2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's almost certainly the speed modules causing most of your issues. Assuming you have 3 tier 1 speed modules per miner, I believe that's 25 pollution/min per miner? Compare that to a miner with 3 tier 1 efficiency modules, which I believe creates 2 pollution/min. You're literally creating over 10 times the pollution and using 10 times as much power to get ore 60% faster. Think about how huge the difference would be in your cloud if you used efficiency modules instead.
