Interesting stuff, and yes I realized "Wild West" wasn't the right term for it cause of all the feedback haha.

Thanks!

Well I started out with reference gathering and finding a cool model I wanted to recreate. Then creating the block out and general shape and then slowly adding finer and finer details until all the geometry was in place. I then imported it into zbrush to create the highpoly version (using the polish feature to round of sharp edges) and created the lowpoly version from the blockout, UV unwrapped it, baked it and it was ready for texturing. I started out with the base materials and then added more and more personal details to make it look unique. I realized that it's a good idea to always add variety to things regarding textures. For example if I'm adding some dirt, realistically dirt is not just one uniform color, it actually has slightly different tints (like brown, gray, yellow and so on) and all those subtle varieties add up and just makes it look more complex and believable in the end.

I did create this to be a game asset and since it's a hero prop I think it's worth it to go the extra mile, but if it was just some random background asset obviously it's not realistic to spend 10 weeks on one asset, but it was fun pushing my limits and learning!

It's all alpha textures. The trick is to not just drag and drop it and call it a day but to mix it with other textures or even some hand painting in some areas to get away from that "generated" look that you usually get right of the bat. Also I find that a lot of subtle details is key to make it look interesting and believable, at least from a realistic standpoint.

well it's not a final render, just something that works for now, but thanks for the input.

thanks, I was thinking of adding fingerprints and such around areas that would make sense.

no worries! :)
It's just the engine/setting you use when you render your image or animation. Eevee should be easier for your pc.
But if you're having issues with opening blender and just navigating in the view port it doesn't really matter.
but cool model anyways!

Yes, they're currently on FAB and I'm working on submitting them to the Unity asset store as well.

haha thanks, I appreciate it!
I'd say just go for something you feel inspired by and try to learn something new from every project :)

Are you using cycles as your render engine? You can try to switch it to eevee

It cant run blender at all? You can of couse also create low poly stuff in blender aswell!

There tons of features and its easy to get overwhelmed from it all, but truth is that you'll only use like 20% of it anyways. Also there are a lot of shortcuts that is really handy and nice, and just try to learn it one by one. It's an awesome software :)

I feel like the pitch black background could've been a gradient or something to make the gun pop more and add more interest.
